If I am there at rope drop and on the right side, will I need a FP for talking Mickey, or if I go straight there, will I be good?

No FP will be needed.

By far, the bulk of the guests will be on a direct quest for Fantasyland at Rope Drop.

We went right after Spectromagic ended in June and we were second in line. There probably wasn't a line during the parade either.

You'll be fine if you're okay waiting 10-15 miutes. We did this at our rope drop in June last year - I was super excited to see the talking Mickey and we went straight for the line as soon as we got into the park at rope drop. They don't let people start going in to see Mickey for about 10 minutes so we waited maybe 15 minutes and there were like 10 people in front of us. My boyfriend (at the time) ended up proposing to me in front of Mickey :) <3

Can the talking Mickey carry on conversation (is it the actor's real/modulated voice) or just a set of pre-recorded lines?

SPOILER:
It is a somewhat sophisticated pre-recorded system.
Mickey can "interact" with guests, but if you pay attention, Mickey is "leading" the conversations.

If anyone in your party is celebrating a birthday, anniversary, engagement, etc. be sure to tell the Attendant as you approach Mickey. She will announce the exciting news to Mickey and he will then interact accordingly.

Also, if you are an English-speaker but may look like a person who would possibly speak Spanish, or Portuguese, or Japanese, make sure the Attendant knows to announce that you speak English. If that doesn't happen, you may be in for a very confusing meet and greet.

We went in right at rope drop, and we had about a 15 minute wait - 10 mintues from ropedrop until the meet and greet opened up, then 5 minutes until our turn - ithink we were like 3rd or 4th in line and we actually came in from the left side

I'm in the same boat as kiapepito. I LOVE Mickey! Tell me about the talking Mickey!

There is a talking Mickey? Oh no.. I thought I was all set for our trip... can you provide more information. Thanks!
Talking Mickey is a magician and meets in Town Square theater. When all the magic is in sync, he talks and interacts with his guests.

There is a FP available for his meet and wait times are low during the parades and fireworks. Mickey is available from park opening through park closing.

We have a FP to see him on our last day. He will be what we are seeing last in our whole trip. I thought it was a good thing to end on to see Talking Mickey. Plus my little 1 is a HUGE fan of Mickey. He's only 19 months bu just loves him. I've been showing him you tube videos of some of the characters we are meeting so he won't get frightened when we are there and his eyes just lit up when he saw Talking Mickey. We are super excited to see him!

On a scale from POTC to something that never breaks(stitch, loll?) how likely is Mickey to be talking at any given time?

I think it's like the Florida weather forecast. You really don't know until you're ready to be loaded into Mickey's dressing room. Better odds of meeting first thing in the morning through mid-day.
