Talking Mickey in the Parks

One of my friends just told me about this on Twitter. I think this is so cool. I was surprised at how Mickey was able to say the people's names that quickly. He must have a huge dictionary of names and words he can say. I wonder if what he can say is controlled by the person in the costume or someone in another room listening through a mic or something else.

Whatever it is, I think this is very cool and it should be implemented in all the parks. I hope the other characters get to talk as well. :)

It's basically the same technology as Turtle Talk, Stitch Live or Laugh Floor.

So there is a CM speaking and his voice is modified by computer to sound like a character. That way he can say pretty much anything he wants, including any name.

I agree that it's a neat idea but I'm a little sad about it. I love the way that Mickey and the others can interact so much WITHOUT talking. I think the body language, etc. is really cute and I hope that type of interaction doesn't suffer when a voice is added.

But what will we do without the "How do you explain to your kids why the characters don't talk?" threads? :)

My DD is 8 and we just had a discussion about how the characters aren't real because they don't talk. But I told her I believe they are real. Looks like I win on this one now. I can't wait to show her this video!

I'm with you. Watching the video it's so awesome to see this wonderful character that we've loved for so many years finally being able to speak to us. But on the other hand, Mickey has been silent my entire life, it's what I've always known. I love how they communicate without words. I think talking Mickey is a great new step though.

This is just awesome. I think that the kids will just love it and maybe even the adults. Each child will get a personalized experience with mickey and will remember it forever. I can't wait till they bring it to the world on a larger scale.

ITA. ::yes::

While it is VERY cool technology, I love seeing kids interact with Mickey...and other characters, without talking. Kids always seem to know exactly what the characters are "saying."

That is really really cool!

I'm all for this, actually. From the video, Mickey still looked like he had some good interactions, just with sound.

I don't know, I guess we'll see.
