Talked with Guide Today Told Me to Skip Poly

Re: The laundry issue. I think many DVCers who book a studio will pack as if they're hotel room guests, and not utilize the laundry. I pack very differently when I stay in a 1BR than when I stay in a studio.

Us too. And when we stay in a studio it's generally a long weekend or so as opposed to a 1 bdr which is generally a week.

if I were your guide's sales manager, would strongly advise him to brush up a bit on technique, Terming the point chart 'crazy' isn't professional or positive & reflects badly on the brand.
Maybe not good sales technique but it sure is craaaaaaazy!

This USED to be us....until we actually discovered the laundry rooms. Out of all the research I did and learning everything I could (in about a year of reading) laundry is the one thing I didn't know about. We have a small contract and have traveled far more than we planned when we first purchased.....so now we really have no plans to stay in anything other than a studio. It was very nice when we stayed at BCV and the laundry room was on the top floor right down the hall from our room. Made it very convenient. When we stayed for a week at SSR I requested the Springs so I could be closer to the main pool AND laundry room. BLT I definitely found competition for the laundry.

There are 2 reasons we utilize studio's and laundry rooms now. First is we save points not getting a 1 br (We found the kitchenette is enough for our needs) and Second....We are usually traveling Spirit Airlines for REDICULOUSLY cheap airfare and we fit everything in the FREE carry on size (pretty easy to do with this bag http://www.walmart.com/ip/American-Tourister-Atmosphera-II-Overnight-Tote/39507993). We can fit 3-4 days worth of clothes in them per person....we don't pay a bag fee which is pricier for Spirit, and it allows us to fly for @$100 per person round trip.

Doesn't $5 more per point for VGF translate into a higher commission for a guide?

Mehhh....I don't want someone blowing smoke up my skirt. The candid salesman will always get my sale. Especially since he has multiple products with different pros/cons to each.

But honest!
Do you think he is honest or is he telling you what he thinks you want to hear?

You need to make your own decision based on what works for you.

A salesman is a salesman is a salesman. He's only your friend until you've signed the contract.....

I thinks he is honest. No incentive to point me in either direction. He knows I make my own decisions and knows I stay in studios and 1 bedrooms. Really wasn't looking to hear anything but what he thought. Was a simple conversation which I asked one question and he did the rest if the talking except for some pleasantries.

Most Realtors would disagree with that comment, although I believe I understand your statements as a whole.;)

It's my understanding the DVC guides are all licensed in the state of FL. The guide in question's client is DVC, not the buyer/OP. He has primary fiduciary responsibility to protect DVC's interests, aside from the standard disclosures he is obligated to represent to the buyer. If the salesperson is also a Realtor, he has an even higher standard of conduct with which to adhere.

Sorry, but if he represented me as a client, I certainly wouldn't want him interjecting what is basically his personal opinion as he disclosed to you.

It is difficult to sort out if the information is his opinion or whether he was motivated by his specific contracted sales commission (not uncommon for top producers to earn more in general real estate). Often there are special incentives currently in place to push one of the product's offering over the other.

I added 75 points at the Poly this weekend. Yes, yes I know. But I wanted it. I am not interested in VGF but my guide was pushing it. I have a March UY and if I bought VGF I would have got 2014 points plus 2015 points. I did not get that with Poly (2014 UY points were only if UY was June - later).
Price per point at VGF was higher by 5 bucks but I didn't want it. I told my guide a year ago to put me on the list for the Poly knowing I wanted it. He still pushed VGF. So I almost got the impression there is an incentive for them to sell VGF.
Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful place but just not what I wanted. I loved the Poly studios and they work for how we vacation now so it worked. It will not work for everyone. My Mom always use to say "that's why there is salt & pepper and chocolate & vanilla."
While I am and always will be envious of those who paid well below the $80 price per point mark, I just didn't get the offer back then. Heck, I never even heard of DVC back then and I live in FL and visited WDW back then. I was under a rock I guess. lol
Point is that anything is worth anything if you think it is. I wanted the Poly so it was worth it to me. Glad I did it.
