I keep reading about the change in the hamburger buns. When did this change happen? I am trying to figure out if we had the new buns last October when we were there.

They were definitely being used on the veggie burgers last September, but I don't know if they were being used on all the burgers at that time or if they started with just the veggie burgers.

It's been at least a few years since they've been using those multigrain buns on the burgers, at the very least. It's not a new change. I'm not sure about when the hot dog buns changed, but I'd assume around the same time I noticed.

I noticed them last week. They are big and kind of crusty (In a bad way) They have weird seeds in them, and don't taste very good. Basically, they're disgusting.

They have been that way for last few years, just at CS places. Sometimes they arent bad, sometimes the change is noticeable. I think when they are a few days old they are more noticeable b/c they seem dry or stale..

I have been wondering about this as well.

This was a really hot topic this time last year.

So are they using the same healthy buns that everyone hated or did they find some that were more palatable and that reduced the complaining or did it just become accepted?

They've been using gross buns for a few years now.

All the buns I had tasted fine when I was in the world. From the buns on my chicken sandwich at sci fi to the hamburger bun at cosmic rays to the buns on my pulled pork at Peco Bills. All the buns tasted fine and should be the last thing ANYONE worries about when going to disney....

It is a small thing and it sounds like they have addressed the problem.
I have not seen as many complaints lately.

It was a problem a year ago because the buns were falling apart and tasted like sawdust.

If one of your childhood memories is having hotdogs at Disney and you go with your kids and they are serving these I think it is an issue.

My hubby and I had Cheeseburgers from ABC commisary and we both basically said "Not worth the 8 bucks we paid OOP" I was disgusting but we ate it cause Heck it wasnt cheap :headache:

The Buns tasted fine to us in Sept 08, Sept 09, and Dec 09..But they are also the whole grain ones that everyone has been complaining about

Rest assured, the buns won't ruin our trip :lmao:

However, it was possible they would impact where we eat or what we ordered. I was in WDW last fall and I had at least one burger (Cosmic Ray's) and I remember it being fine. So whatever the bun issue is/was, it obviously didn't bother me.

My kids and dh had more burgers/sandwiches. We ate at Pecos Bill's twice but I always get the taco salad there! Anyway, they didn't complain either. So either we were starving (possbile) or we liked them!

For me the taste wasn't the issue-it is the fact that they self destruct while trying to eat.

Bingo. The true test for me was a burger at Pecos Bill's. I remember the self-destructing hamburger bun when I ate there before MNSSHP, back in October 2007. (Easy for me to remember, as I hadn't been to the Halloween party in subsequent years.)

This July, I had the Angus burger at Pecos Bills, and the bun seemed to hold up better. (The burger was tasty and huge!)

Out of curiosity, is there a pic of the burgers? Saw in another thread that the OP complained about "translucent" burger buns. Are they really that bad???

We were talking about something this past week and I mentioned something about sitting outside at Casey's enjoying a hotdog with tons of sauerkraut on it. (anticipating our upcoming trip) . .to which he replied, 'yeah. . .but I'm bringing my own bun!':)

He isn't a fan of the buns. I can take 'em or leave 'em. . .but they do seem to break apart too easily and sometimes seem stale.

He can appreciate (as I) going whole grain or whole wheat. . .but we agree. . .fine for a healthy sandwich we are making at home. . .but if we are eating a hotdog on vacation we want the enriched-nothing-healthy-about-it-bun to go along with it!
:rolleyes1

I was curious about when this change took place also. Only because I remember having a cheeseburger at the ASMu food court and the bun seemed fine to me. Maybe not the most magical bun but, I would remember if it was inedible...

To the posters asking where these buns were, I believe it's been said here and in several other threads that these buns only seem to be at the Counter Service restaurants.
I was just at Sci-Fi last fall and remember having a terrific burger! I will miss it this year but, we're doing Prime Time this trip as it's only DBF's second trip so, must try new restaurants for him.
