Talk to me about the Express Pass, Please

The lanyard thing was OK. I had 4 lanyards with large pouches with zippered compartments that I got free at some convention that I brought along for us. The plastic window in front had a velcro seal. That said, our Express passes got pretty wet after a bunch of water rides (and it wasn't the fault of Popeye's ride since we had our lanyards in the covered middle storage section!). It was fine, but we couldn't pull the passes in and out of the plastic window after that without damaging them. Mine was my "purse", holding my iPhone, credit card, ID, and a $20 bill.

Thankfully, the passes can get scanned without removing them from the window section. I liked that they didn't get crumpled and we didn't have to have a "keeper of the Express Passes" since they get glanced at in the beginning of a line and scanned at one point near the front of the line. DH wore a waterproof pouch lanyard for his phone and he popped his Express Pass in there.

I would suggest a little name badge holder for your DH, he can just clip it to his belt loop or slide it in his pocket. My DH liked his phone on his lanyard vs weighing down his shorts. (I prefer my phone in my pocket so my lanyard doesn't weigh down my neck lol)

I'm tempted to buy Universal's lanyard with the whole zip lock pouch since that is more secure and safe for the crummy paper express pass. But I think we will manage with what we have. Nice to have extra pockets to stuff junk in when needed.

Thanks again everyone! I'm not sure what he is going to do yet. We have plenty of time to think about it. My daughter looked at the selection of lanyards online and asked if she could just wear her Disney lanyard! I told her she might get some funny looks. :rotfl:

If you stay onsite, your Express Passes are plastic and are unaffected by water.

Odd, we stayed at Hard Rock Hotel onsite this past weekend and our Express Passes were paper. We did a bunch of water rides and they definitely were affected by water. Really surprised they r not plastic. Guess they sell more lanyards this way.

Though this was true years ago, it's no longer accurate. The Express Passes are now printed on paper just like the admission tickets.

I'll have to look at mine again. I thought I remembered them as thin plastic.

Never had an issue with wetness with them. More paranoid about the AP - I assume it's a bigger PITA to replace.

I think they are all printed on Tyvek which is supposed to be sturdier than paper.

If it's the same material as the Tyvek used to wrap homes it should be waterproof.

Just put my express pass under the tap. The back seems to be paper and it rubs off. The front is tyvek and it stayed intact. I would imagine that over a period of a couple of days it would get pretty messy if it was always wet.

I hate lanyards too but if I had to use one, I just tuck it under my shirt the whole time at the park and just pull it out when needed. I hate the dangling and bouncing it does on my chest but tucked in is OK.

I should have tested mine more. I hVe used tyvek and it didnt seem like tyvek. I got mine wet in my lanyard and decided at one point to take it out and move it to a different spot. I kept changing my mind where i wanted to put it so kept moving it. At that point it felt fragile (and wet) so I decided I better stop handling it. I remember wishing it was tougher so i wouldnt have to worry about it. Then again, I didnt examine it carefully so it could well be tyvek.

Is tgere a difference between the hotel EPs and the ones u buy in the parks?

There is no difference between the bought EP and hotel EP paper. Same applies to AP and tickets.

They do get messed up from the water rides if staying for multiple days especially the AP. I wish I never gave up my photo AP.
