We are planning one day at IOA in a week and a half. We are not staying onsite so there is no early entry. From reading this is a non issue since Harry doesn't open early anyway? I know this ride draws a huge crowd with big wait times. My question is....the 3 of us going know NOTHING of Harry Potter. No movies, no books, no interest. Is it in our interest to hit this very first thing in the morning. It seems like it's a production and ride. If we know nothing will we "get it" or is it just that cool we must see??

First, Harry Potter absolutely HAS early entry for resort guest or partner hotel participants. The Studios also has early entry from July 1st-Sept 2nd I think what u are confusing early entry with is express pass access. The signature ride in the castle ( Forbidden Journey) doesn;t have express pass access, nor does Ollivanders wand shop experience..My suggestion is to at least see the first movie to get an idea of what to expect ( you will enjoy the ride and area ALOT more and appreciate it more). Will you enjoy it without doing so? probably... but some of the references and things will be over your head.
You can hit it first thing in the morning when the park opens, but keep in mind that area will already be packed with resort guests. The crowds do die down LATE in the day.The disadvantage to waiting though is that if there is any techinical issues with the ride late in the day, you might not get on.

I think it is cool to see. I don't remember Song of the South, but I still like the Splash Mountain ride. The castle and little stores are like a movie set. Very detailed and great scenery. The castle ride is not like any other ride I have been on. Something to experience at least once. If you like an Olde English style village, you have the basic idea of what the HP area looks like.

However, you may want to see at the least the first HP movie, as it will help you understand better what the park is depicting, but it's not necessary.

Have a great time! We love USO and I am an AP holder.

Also, some offsite hotels offer early entry if you book a package. It is not limited to on-site guests!

Personally, I would rent at least the first one and watch it to give you a feel for the attraction. I'm pretty sure I've only seen the first one. The theming is amazing and the Forbidden Journey attraction is incredible. We LOVED it!
