Talk to me about gaming system?

If you can download classic nintendo games for the Wii......does that mean you play those with a joystick? I want the Wii, but want to be able to sometimes just sit there and play a game. (like Mario Bros or something). It sounds like all the Wii games make you move?

Honestly most 'movement games' do not require you to get up and move unless it's like Wii Fit that has a board. I mean you can get into it - and that's part of the fun appeal, but the game doesn't know if you are sitting and flicking the controller vs. standing up and swinging it.
I play the wii laying down, my arms behind me, or even laying upside down. I love it for that because it amuses me to lay in weird positions while still playing.

Editted to add - the controller also turns on it's side and you can use it like a basic 2 button/dpad controller for many games, or you can pick up the wii classic controller, or plug in the old gamecube controller, or wavebird.

Thanks! I thought every game for the Wii you have to be standing up (like they show on the commercials). So when you are bowling for instance, you can just sit on the couch and barely move your arm to bowl??

Yes. For most Wii games that use the motion controls a little flick of the wrist works just as well as actually standing and flailing like they do in the ads - but the flailing is more fun! :) Really, though, it really requires very little movement, though some games need more than others. None need as much as you see on TV.

For bowling, I think standing up would be better, but a large portion of the games can be done sitting down. Wii is definitely worth the investment (just make sure the wrist straps are on always, my neighbors huge flat screen TV was cracked by a flying remote) My 3 year old has a v-tech and she rarely plays it. She is much more interested in the old Sega Pico system that I have from when my 13 year old was small. It's an 11 year old system and all 3 of my kids have adored it. Maybe you could get the family a Wii and for around $20 on e-bay, you could get a pico with a bunch of games.
