What does the travel insurance cover? I believe I read that if a hurricane comes while we're there, it will cover any additional days we have to stay - is that correct? Anything else?

I was wondering about that, too.
Also, does it cover if you can't fly in because of hurricanes?

Hope this helps!!

I just called Disney to get info on their insurance. The company that supplies it is from is called Travel Guard 800-826-3899.. ask for product 004258.

You can call them if you have any questions.

What they told me:

Re: Weather- You are not covered out of anticipation, say if a hurricane is due to hit on Friday and its Tuesday
You are only convered if there is a mandatory evacuation. (I don't think they evacuated out of Orlando on the last hurricanes.)

You get the value of the trip returned to you if you cannot go due to illness or injury with sign physicans documents.

Also does not cover you if you miss your flight due to waking up late, mechanical problems, or flight crew staffing problems. Also personal reasons, school/work,etc. But, will cover you if you have jury duty.

Insurance costs $59 per adult.

If you don't buy the insurance and cancel from 45 days to 7 days there is a $100 penalty per reservation. If its within 6 days its a $200 penalty per reservation. or if you plan on rescheduling it to another time it is a $50 change fee instead.

Sounds like it would cost $118 for the "what if" when you would only be out $200 if you had to cancel last minute.

Disney vacation insurance is a rip-off. If you think insurance is right for you, check out this link...the rates are about 1/2 the cost that Disney charges and the coverage is generally better.

I haven't decided if I want to purchase insurance yet. I normally don't, but since it's hurricane season I'm considering it. If I went through Disney, the insurance would be $59 ($118 if you book for a family with two adults)

My options using the link below include two very affordable options:
