Okay, we just returned from a wonderful fall break in Disney. We stayed at the Poly, and AKL... BOTH my favorite resorts ever, with the Poly being my all time favorite :cloud9:
Here's where I need some sense knocked into me...We were booked at CSR for Christmas this year, but I decided to cancel and book the FQ for late May/early June. My heart is saying, change our resort to the Poly, which will be well over $2,000.00 more. I know that is crazy, but it is my favorite resort, and I just love it. My brain is telling me to keep the FQ, and use that extra $ for other things. I want to be content with the FQ... I have always wanted to try it, but end up going deluxe. Talk me into keeping the FQ!

I forgot all about renting points! I will have to check into that! Thanks for reminding me!

Sorry, I'm no help. We were just at GF & YC club levels in September & got APs as we are planning to go again in May. Saw a great deal on airfare for mid December ($170 round trip from Buffalo) on Tuesday. Joked with DH that I could get an AP rate at POR for 4 nights & with that airfare spend only $1000. Sure, he says, what ever you want. Yea, then I saw an AP rate at YC for a garden view room. And now I'm spending $2000. :rolleyes1

I say, if you can afford it, follow your heart! :goodvibes

What you could do is book a ressie for Poly, too, and wait to see what deals come out for that include your May/June dates. What maybe a huge price difference now, could up being much less so once discounts come out. In the end, the prices could end up being similar. A lot of times discounts don't include POFQ and the discount with a deluxe resort ends up not being too much more then a non-discounted POFQ room.

I don't think you need any sense knocked into you at all! However, I'd say go for FQ. I know I have the liberty to say this, but money is money so don't make your decision solely on that (obviously you have the money to be able to do it, or it wouldn't be a debate, so money becomes less of an issue). You say that you've always wanted to try FQ, I say give it a go! I've stayed deluxe, moderate, and value. Everyone's taste is so different, but I will say I love Poly but I love FQ too. Part of the fun of Disney for me has become staying in the different hotels. It adds something new. FQ has been my families fav resort for a lot of reasons, and it's definitely not all about money. I love the theme, I love the boats to DS, I love the rooms, and the quietness of the resort, and being able to watch the horses pulling the carriages, etc... I guess I've always felt that if you don't like it you never have to stay there again, but if you do, you've found a new place to hang out. There are deluxes I don't think I'd stay at again, and there are values I wouldn't stay at again, but I'm glad I had the experience because that matters as much to me as saving the cash.

You could do a split stay with a couple of nights at FQ and the rest at the Poly. That way you get a taste of what a moderate resort is like. And knowing you will be at the Poly later will make it seem like a reward. :)

That is how we handled our first experience at a moderate resort. We just stayed two nights at POR and then moved to the YC. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked POR.

We did the same (almost). We spent 4 nights at Coronado Springs and 4 nights at the Boardwalk Inn. While we will always stay deluxe when possible, we were surprised by how much we didn't hate CS! We'd definitely stay moderate again if we had to.

Love this idea!!!!

If you do decide to stay at FQ, please know that its a beautiful resort. The courtyards are so peaceful and the boatride to Disney Springs is fabulous! I would totally save the money if it was my choice! :flower1:

Guys, I caved in, and changed our resort to the Polynesian. :rolleyes1
I need to join a support group for resort changers....aye aye aye :headache:
My husband could live off of the sushi though, and my son loves the pool. I personally have always been a sucker for the Poly, I just feel super guilty now. Maybe one day I will try the FQ. Thanks for the advice and replies, however. :teeth:

I feel your pain!! I love the Poly so, so much that staying at a different resort is tough for me. I am staying at BC for a week in January; I really like the proximity to Epcot and the new rooms are lovely. But, I will 100% be back at the Poly next summer!
