Talk me into Whispering Canyon . . .

I'm thinking about trying Whispering Canyon for dinner on our upcoming trip. We have 11 in our group, including 4 adults and kids ages 11, 9, 9, 8, 7, 5, & 3. It looks fun and the food sounds pretty good, but is it worth the price? Also, I've heard alot about the bottomless milkshakes. Are they good, and how much do they cost?

I thought the food was delicious!! I had the skillet which is:


Mixed greens with apple vinaigrette dressing, fresh baked corn bread. Move on to smoked pork ribs, canyon pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, cowboy beans, creamy cole slaw and corn on the cob.

The salad was so-so but I loved the rest. I don't even usually like ribs, but I thought these were great!!, the pork sausage was really good, good mashed potatoes, DS loved the corn on the cob. I also had the chocoalte cake for dessert which was wonderful!! This was one of our best meals. Everyone else in the party ordered something different and they all enjoyed theirs as well. I highly recommend it!!

We have eaten there twice, and really liked it. My DH, who is very quiet, was probably the least "into" it. However, while planning for our trip in May I asked for suggestions for meals, and my quiet DH said Whispering Canyon. This stunned me because even though all of the rest of us liked it, I really thought that it may have been too noisy for him. He said, no way - he was always quiet because he didn't want "special attention" from the waitstaff. We are returning for the ribs and chicken at WCC in May.

by disney standards i thought the food was reasonably priced as the portions were really big..we couldn't eat an appe or dessert and i took 1/2 my meal home. we liked the brkfst skillet but not the dinner..next trip we will order plated meals( like Jethro's pork chops yum) for dinner. we really enjoyed our meals there and with a large group think it would be really fun

we got the bottomless shakes in Dec on the dining plan.. but watch out...... they will FILL YOU UP!!

We had some at our table get them refilled 3xs.. and NO it wasn't me mine was refilled twice

This was our FAVorite meal last trip.. so good that we switched a character breakfast to do WCC again. We had 4 adults and 4 kids with us.

This will be our first meal at WDW in Dec again.

This is a MUST everytime we go to WDW. We have eaten the breakfasts (off the menu, not skillett) and the food is very good. we use the DDE card and get a 20% discount.

Our last trip, we had Jeremy as our waiter. I think this guy worked every shift on every day. He's the one with the wicker hat with the frog on it. Great server, friendly, snotty, loud...everything you want in a server in this restaurant.

The pork chops are good at dinner. If you can take a little ribbing (because everyone gets some), go eat there. It's worth it.

This thread was perfect for me because we JUST booked WCC for the very first night we'll be in Disney - March 3rd and we're staying at WL. Friends of ours recommended this restaurant and said we'd have fun. From all of the responses here, it definitely sounds like we will!

Great to now know about their breakfast, too. We knew about their dinner, but didn't know they had a good breakfast. Since we're staying there, we're going to have to try the bfast. We are getting an annual pass, then buying a DDE, so we'll get that discount, too! Woo Hoo.

The only thing that hasn't been discussed here is the "activities" in the restaurant? I heard there are pony ride (sticks) for the kids? I heard it's funny if you ask for ketchup (you get tons?). I know the waiters are rowdy (they're supposed to be). Sounds like a lot of fun.

Love, Love, LOVE WC!! We prefer dinner over lunch--not because of the food but because it's just much more rowdy and fun.

My 14 yo got mad at me after our first visit that I had not scheduled ALL of our ADR's at WC. That's when we made another trip back for lunch.

For those that want to know about the antics there: Ask for ketchup, drop your fork, swing your napkin during the Pony Trot, ask for refills on your pop. It's a blast. DD got ketchup even though she didn't ask for it.

I saw the funniest thing there--it was a boy's birthday--he had turned 14. The servers brought him a piece of cake and sang to him. Then they each whipped out a fork and ate the entire thing. The look on that poor boy's face was priceless. (They did have another piece of cake just for him but it was hysterical.)

One server showed dd a magic trick. When he walked away, she asked me how he did it and I explained it to her. The guy was FOUR tables away from us and started yelling at me, "Trick Ruiner! You're not David Blaine!" It was so funny (and who knew he had such excellent hearing!) You'll have a lot of fun--oh, and we really enjoyed the food, too. I'm very excited that we'll be back there on our February trip!

I went a little over a year ago with my sister, our mother, and my son for lunch. It was very quiet there, and since I've heard that dinner is more lively I gave it a second chance last week. My DD and I went for dinner. I can't say that I was impressed. Party because our waitress really was not into the place (she was a good waitress as far as her actual service, but did not do any antics and kind of roller her eyes at the things that were going on). The food was ok--we're vegetarian so didn't have the skillet. Maybe meat eaters would have been happier there. I do not ever plan to return--so-so overpriced food I try not to repeat more than once.

I do know that other people like the place, though. We would have gone to Prime Time Cafe, but it was closed this visit. Next time we'll stick to that place since we love that atmosphere.

We ate here for the first time last month and it was a blast! The kids loved it when our waiter threw our straws at us! DD asked for ketchup without knowing what was going on and couldn't believe how many bottles of ketchup we got! She and DS loved taking the ketchup to the next person who asked for it! The skillet is great and so is the cornbread! I didn't get a milkshake but they sound yummy! The kids also enjoyed playing with the Lincoln Logs while we waited!

I think the milkshakes were around $4 each. Can't remember if the kids were cheaper, they were all the same size, so maybe not. They are thick, and you can have as many refills as you want. It is easy to fill up on those and not have room for our food.

I do think it is worth the cost. The food is really good, and the antics are great entertainment. I went for my birthday 2 years ago and they made me stand in my chair and asked the entire dining room to sing to me. On another trip they made a young man ride a stick horse through the lobby singing "Happy Birthday" to himself!

It is a great place for kids. You can tie your cloth napkin around your head and stick straws in it, like an Indian head dress. I have been told that you can "wear" your napkin out of there and take it home.

My 5 yr old DS asked for ketchup. The waiter made him stand in his chair and yell "I need ketchup". Then everyone who had a bottle on their table brought it to him. We must have had 30 bottles. So of course when the next person yelled, we were happy to take it ALL to them so we could have some room on our table again. A little girl asked for a blue crayon (there are crayons and paper to use while you wait for your food.) Her waiter announced her need and everyone who had a blue took it too her!

They did have a stick horse "race" (no winners or loosers) around the dining room. Any adult caught not cheering for the children would take a lap by his or herself!

I heard that they used to have shoot outs with cap guns, but not since 9/11.

You may not see the same tricks or antics, so don't get your hopes up. I'm sure they will cut up and act silly in some way. Play along with them and they will tease you more.

We love the Wilderness Lodge in general, it is our home resort - but we like all the resorts. The resort in itself is breathtaking.

We make a point of going here every visit. My 10 year old gets too involved sometimes and we have to tell him to settle down or he will knock somebody over - scary, he usually isn't like this but he knows how the waitstaff will react.

Last year we had early ADR's and the waitress/waiters sat down and played with my daughters Polly's she was mortified at first that they were going to take them and wasn't sure how to react. I am sure she will remember this year!

It's always fun to take "new" people here and not tell them all the "secrets".
