Talk me into keeping a cabin

Frank is right....dont talk yourself into anything when it comes to a vacation. You get very few of them in the big picture of life and if you find yourself having too many "what ifs" then its just not worth it.

The Fort is amazing and those of us who go as often as we can do it because of the overall experience. We did do the golf cart thing this year......only $150 a week from Tee Time and it was well worth it. It may take a few extra minutes to get to the parks but that can be true from any resort and I think the time you loose in transit is not really a big deal.

The cabins are very nice and have all the conforts of home with the addition of the wonderful Mousekeepers to keep it clean and tidy. Really a good way to enjoy the Fort if you are not the roughing it camper type.

My Mom had the same concerns about the cabins several years ago and said to the lady at Disney when she called "I dont want to stay in a dump". The ladies reply was....."Disney doesnt make any dumps."

how does it work if you stay in a cabin and have a car...
do you park right by the cabin?

i looked at the pictures posted on allears.net, but i couldn't tell whether you park by the cabin or not..

If you have a car you park right at your cabin. No long walks to/from the parking lot. Except for the MK we used our car to go to the other parks. I have bus issues that date back to elementary school (when dinosaurs roamed the earth)! That said, we didn't mind the bus to the boat to the MK. It really isn't as bad as it sounds. The boat to/from MK is wonderful. There is a separate boat that travels to WL, and CR in case you have plans to go there for dinner, breakfast,etc.

Interesting to note how many posters said "how relaxing" FW is. That is true, however, there are MANY activities also! Horseback riding, Segway tours, biking, canoeing, two pools, HDDR, fishing, and more. After a busy day at the Fort, it's nice to go back to your cabin, or campsite and "relax".

I totally agree with everything Redshoe said. We have now stayed at the cabins 3 times and are thrilled to be returning in March. The only reason we ever stayed there the first time was that we had family who was camping. However, on the last 2 trips, we had no one camping and yet returned to the cabins anyway. There is just so much more room that we can't stay away. DH gets too crowded after a few days in a regular hotel room with all 4 of us, so we never stayed as long as we wanted to. But at the cabin, he could actually stay forever since we don't get in each other's way like we do in a regular room.

I respectfully disagree with Frank and Jim - we had great reservations about staying in a cabin instead of the Poly (concierge) where we were used to staying. And yet, we loved it enough to keep coming back over and over.

Each discusses why we love staying there, but the first of the FW trip reports (May 2008 I think) probably has the most FW-specific info since it was our first time staying there.

I just read all three of your FW trip reports. They were fantastic!!! You have a beautiful family.

It sounds like you all had an awesome time on each of your trips!!!

I am getting more and more excited about staying in a cabin!!!

To be completely honest we stay in the campground for 1. the convenience of having everything we need in our RV. We have 3 adopted handicapped, medically fragile, special needs children (now 13, 13 and 12) all in wheel chairs.
We carry oxygen concentrators, tanks, compressors, Pulse Oximeters, Feeding Pumps & bags, cases of formula and diapers (all in size adult medium) and loads of Christmas decorations. This year I think I counted 22 large inflatables but did not count all the other things like lights and of course 2 trees. It is relaxing, once we get everything set up which takes 2 or 3 days sometimes (decorating and putting the side room on the RV).
2. The friendliness of the other campers and the staff at FW. This year I had to have IV Meds shipped to us once
each week and it had to be refrigerated upon arrival. They called us as soon as the large box arrived. They even delivered a bouquet from Edible arrangements to us rather than having us pick it up. We enjoy the decorations in the campground and the laundry facilities. I have to wash at least every other day as you can imagine with the 3 children. All my grandchildren save their quarters for me
and I buy them for use in the washers and dryers. It usually cost us about $100 for laundry for the 3 weeks we are there.
There are some less expensive hotels within WDW than the campground but we find the convenience of having everything set up in the RV (Medical wise) is worth the extra money. Moving all that equipment to a hotel room takes more than an hour. And you can't decorate the hotel room like you can your campsite. There are folks who decorate their cabins too.
We bought a golf cart which more than paid for itself in
a couple of 3 week stays and renting one from WDW.

I have stayed at every moderate and deluxe resort Disney has and believe it or not, I LOVE the Cabins. Now, I am not a camper either and I was also concern how it would be. My step kids love to camp and talk me into staying at the cabins. Here is why I LOVE our Disney Cabins: 1) Full Size Kitchen, with 2 teenagers, having this save us a lot of money from eating at the restaurants; also, I love to have a cup of coffee in the morning and sit outside on the picnic table and enjoy the peace and quite. 2) Seperate sleeping quarters for the kids, we sleep very comfortable on the murhpy bed in the livingroom while the kids can sleep without having us wake them up. 3) We always rent a golf cart, because we love driving around in December and looking at all the beautiful RV's all decorated for the holidays. Last Christmas we decorated our golf cart too!! 4) It feels like your actually on vacation, after a day or night at the parks, it's nice to come back to 'homey' place, nice and peaceful. 5) I do not rent a car when I get there, I order our groceries from Garden Grocer as soon as I make our resort reservation and once I check in they deliver the groceries. Once we were all in the pool and the cast member called my cell phone to say that Garden Grocer was there, I asked if I needed to go back and they said no they would take care of putting away our groceries while we enjoyed ourselves in the pool, aah yes, vacation... We have an Owners Locker and I keep a crock pot, so I can buy a Banquet Beef Stew bag, open the bag, add water, put it on slow cook, go to the park, come back in the afternoon and dinner is done, that's my type of cooking. LOL Only thing is you do not get alot of dresser space the was the only down side but other than that, I LOVE THE CABINS!!
