Wife, husband collide on Neck
A husband and wife driving separate vehicles collided head-on Sunday morning in Northumberland County, killing the husband and one of his wife's twin sons.
According to state police, Richard L. Seldon, 37, and Denzell Cottrell, 12, were killed when their car collided with a pickup driven by Seldon's wife, 36-year-old Amy Michelle Seldon.
She and her son Durell Cottrell, also a passenger in the car, were both seriously injured and flown by helicopter to a Richmond hospital, said State Police Sgt. David M. Chewning. Both are expected to recover from their injuries, Chewning said.
The family lived at Burgess. A relative said Durell Cottrell was a rising seventh-grader, and his twin brother, Denzell, was a rising eighth-grader.
According to Chewning, Mrs. Seldon was headed south on State Route 200 near Burgess when her 1990 Chevrolet pickup collided about 7:14 a.m. with the northbound 1977 Oldsmobile driven by her husband.
Chewning said both vehicles were apparently near the center of the roadway. A crash reconstruction team is investigating the accident, he said.
