Taking the train

I've heard and read the same thing. Both stations have babs waiting but if not, the station master will call one for you. In Kissimmee, there are usually 4-5 cabs waiting, regular and van types. The station is in a rather nice part of Old Town, not big, only one station master but is clean and easy to get to.

I was at the Orlando station twice, once on arrival and once at departure and never felt unsafe. There were mostly families there waiting. I'm a single mom and tend to be paranoid, so if anyone would be scared, I would! LOL

I have another question - I was just on the Amtrak web site, and the departure time for our train out of Kissimee has changed slightly from what is on our tickets... by about 30 minutes.

Does Amtrak normally notify travelers of changes to their itinerary, and issue new tickets, or are you on your own to make sure nothing has changed between the time you purchased the tickets and the time you travel???

seems odd to me.

Ugh...
I'm not looking forward to the train ride from MA to FL. Unfortunately, my DH won't fly, and after our last road trip to Disney, I'm refusing to do the drive. It was too long, and left everyone exhausted and cranky.

The train was our "comprimise". I hope I don't live to regret it. I'm just hoping everyone (including the kids), can get enough sleep on the overnight that we aren't all cranky when we arrive via train as well....

:confused3

Debi:
If you can afford the a few xtra $$$ get the roomettes..your meals are included and you have your own space. We have done it with the kids when they were 4,4, and 6 and we are doing it again this August 9,9,11 PHILA to KISS.
The kids loved the train and it is a lot better than driving...Just prepare and plan to keep kids occupied..we were originally planning on coach, but for some of the reasons listed above went for the roomettes...

The earlier you book the cheaper the roomettes are..there are 3 levels of pricing..each gets more expensive as the train books up..

Njbill : Just got off the phone with Amtrak, booked today with the promotion code v515
agent says (coach only) fare is discounted. Also if the agent can not find the code asked them to search the fare plan it's there. It's called the Orlando Magic Card Code.

Sassy2,
Thanks. I finally received a call from Amtrak, and since I booked Roomettes, it was not applicable.. :confused3

NJBILL,

I looked at the price of the roomettes.... ouch.
For the 4 of us - it jumps our round trip cost from $700 to $1800. That's more than a few bucks! We'd have to get 2 roomettes for the 4 of us.

Someone on the train in the dining car was telling me that they called a few days before the trip and talked to someone at Amtrak. Because there were roomettes available at that time, they added them for her for $50 each per leg. Might want to try that........

We have two from Philly for $1400..While I agree it a jump from coach, but if you factor in the meals you get on board (for us 5 people x 8 meals sittings=40 meals round trip),
plus snacks, juice ,water, and the privacy of your own room & toilet..I think it makes it worthwhile..not cheap..but reasonable considering the alternative..

Remember, you also get to wait in Club Acela at the station (snacks, beverages free)..

I want to say that Hertz is right there at the station, but there are several closeby who will come and pick you up. I used Enterprise, which was much cheaper than Hertz. Just call them before you go to pick up your luggage.
