I suffer from fibromyalgia and on really bad days I take panadiene and Carl is a sufferer of chronic migraines and has aspalgin when they are bad. We are a bit worried about taking these with us as we have heard codiene is a big no no over there, has anyone travelled with these? We are thinking of getting our Dr to write something to cover us but we just want to know if we should expect anything.

I always travel with codeine to the US.

I always travel with a letter from my Dr saying that I require the medication and always have label on the box from the pharmacy with my name on it.

You can actually get your Dr to write a script (even if it's just panadeine) and it will come with a prescription details on the box.

You can get codeine over there, but it's by prescription only. So just make sure you have your Dr's letter and the box is labeled with your name.

Same here, we just got letter from our doctor and made sure we kept the medication in their packets with script info on it. Also kept a copy of the doctors letter with our paperwork (copies of everything and anything just in case) and also with the medication.

You should be fine with just a letter, they can't really dispute it if you have a doctor telling them you need it. You may not even need anything, I didn't in the long run! I'm a walking pharmacy due to having kidney failure and took over 30 medications on my trip to the US last year, including codeine and prednisone, neither Australian nor US customs took any interest in my medications at all - they didn't even bat an eye lid in fact Australian security were more concerned with the large tube of toothpaste I left in my suitcase by accident than they were with my meds. Although in Miami on the way to Orlando I did get pulled over for a drug test of my baby powder because it "looks like heroin/codeine"

There's some strong pain killers that you can buy from walgreens, my friend got them and they are pretty damn good stuff!! You need a script to get them here but can just buy 200 tablets of it off the walgreens floor can't for the life of me remember what they're called though but if all else fails go check a walgreens store if you can. Pretty sure they have codeine in them as well :scratchin

Thanks everyone, makes me feel a lot better knowing there probably won't be any problems. Plus we weren't taking a whole lot with us on 1-2 boxes each :)

Last year I strained all the ligaments in my ankle and had to trouble with a variety of different medications to help with swelling of the ankle, and we just carried a note from my Doctor. Had no issues through security or customs at LAX or Port Canaveral as we were travelling.

My sister has even taken Codeine & Augment before, and she's never been asked to prove documentation that she has to carry the medicine. Just make sure you have a letter

I would also get a doctor's letter or script to ensure that the pharmacy will sell you the quantity you need for your trip. Unfortunately a lot of people abuse codeine so there are strict rules about the quantity you buy.

I take over the counter codeine for a sore neck so don't have a script for it, would I have to get a note from doctor as I will be taking a large box? My husband is taking anxiety/sleeping pills would he need one too?

I would get a script, it's just safer :) I have fibromylagia and brought panadeine, my triple mecications, as well as getting a script for anti nausea meds and sleeping tablets just in case.

You can still get a script for an over the counter medication, I would do that if you were taking a large box.

My first trip I even had a letter from my doctor for the over the counter vitamins I was taking with me lol Paranoid much. But I have travelled with a lot of medication, for long trips I normally have double scripts filled and just have a Drs note, never been stopped or asked about them but nice to have the note for peace of mind :)
