what will I need? i have decided to take my godson with my daughter and I on a trip in June. What documents will I need in order to take him with me. we are flying and he is 7 years old.

I know that if they get sick you will need something in writing that you are allowed to approve any treatment for them. My sister was away for one weekend and my neices were staying with me, of course one got strep throat and urgent care wouldn't even look at her until we got ahold of my sister (she was at the lake/no reception). They said a simple letter would have been enough.

You don't need anything to fly with him. I would have his medical cards/insurance information with you and a letter allowing you to seek care. Make sure it notes any allergies or medications he is on. I would make sure to have his parents cell numbers because even with the letter they may want to speak with them before treatment.

Again for flying within this country you don't need anything to take him thru the airport or on an airplane.

Have fun I took my nephew many times.

We just took my DN9 to WDW a few weeks ago and didn't need anything. For the parks/plane/hotel etc. In hindsight I probalby should have had her insurance card and a letter, but I didn't think of it before I left. Both her parents were easily accessible by cell phone though the entire time, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Our DS (age 5) recently went to Philly with his aunt and uncle. We had this letter notarized and sent it along with his birth certificate and insurance card. None of these items was needed but I was glad that they had them just in case:

To Whom It May Concern:

We, the parents of Nathan XXXXXXX, give permission to Amy and Brian XXXXXX to travel out of state with Nathan.

We also give permission for them to obtain medical treatment if necessary.

If there are any questions we can be contacted at 919-111-1111 or 919-222-2222.

We take DNiece7 with us to WDW. We take a medical release, copy of her birth certificate and insurance card with us.

thank you guys very much i have sent my daughter with my grandma for a week before and always sent the medical letter and insurance card i was more concerned about the plan ride

I travel with my nieces and nephews as well.......and I do find it a little shocking that you can get on a plane with a child that doesn't "belong" to you with no questions asked......

We taken a nephew and a lot of the kids friends to WDW with us over the years. We've always gotten a notorized limited power of attorney in case of injuries. Never had to use one though.

I would suggest that, in the letter, his parents not only give permission for any medical treatment, but also acknowledge that they are giving permission for him to travel with you (out of state if that's the case) and be in your care for said dates. I have done this when sending my daughter out-of-state with her grandparents.

Honestly...you don't need anything extra. We always keep the copy of the BC just in case, but we've never had any issue flying with DNiece.
