Hey DISer's- I need some help/info.

In a few weeks I will be taking my 3 and 5 yr old nieces to WDW. I know I have to get papers to be able to authorize for medical care.

But here's another question- they are not technically related to me, and what kind of paperwork/permission do I need to be able to take someone's kids from IL to FL? Any clues?

How has anyone else handled this? Thanks!! :)

You don't need any papers to take kids from state to state in this country, only the permission of the parents. The medical release form is a good idea though. If anyone were to question you on why you had your nieces in DW with you (not that they would) a simple, I am their aunt would suffice. The medical release form would also be an extra "proof" that you didn't kidnap them.

Thanks golfgal!

So- where does one get the medical papers? OR- do you just make up your own and have both parties sign it and have it notarized? Are there specific legal documents?

In case anyone hasn't noticed, I really want to cover my behind!

When we took our DD's friend to WDw, we asked my mom's boss (who is a lawyer). He told us to get the health insurance ID numbers and doctor's name(s), a note from the parents giving permission to treat medically - and it had to be notarized.

I took it to the bank and got it notarized there for free.

Have fun. :sunny:

I agree that no permission, other than parental consent (if divorce this can be trickier) to take them within the US. Do get the medical form and a copy of the insurance card. We have taken many kids (related and not related) on vacation with us. Once my nephew broke out in a terrible rash at WDW. We took him to the non-emergency care and they refused to seem him until I produced the letter. They photo copied it and then treated him. Found out he is allergic to the sun! Go figure.

When we took dd's friend to FL we got a medical release to treat and a permission slip and had it notarized. You can make up your own or maybe get one online. We made up our own and it basically said that so and so's parents gave us permission to make decisions in a medical emergency in their absence and if they couldn't be reached. Also remember to get their medical insurance info-a card if possible or copies (front AND back). We also got written permission (also notarized) to have the girl with us. In some states it is illegal to transport minors accross state lines without written permission. It was the case in Ohio going to Kentucky at the time. It probably stemmed from an old law-it was (still is?? :confused3 ) legal to get married in KY at 16 and it was 18 in Ohio-so to stop the minors from sneaking over to KY they made up the law. It really wasn't too much of a hassle for us just pre planning. Have fun

OK- Jpgirl- I think I am going to do the permission slip thing too. Just in case. See- their mom is a little  sometimes... I just don't want her to call the Amber Alert if we're not home on time or something. Don't know that she would, but like I said, I am taking NO chances. Plus, anytime dh and I take the girls anywhere anyway, we get stared at (we are white and the girls are bi-racial- white and black). Needless to say, they don't look like our kids. So, I just want to make it clear to whoever (if I should have a reason-which I don't anticipate) that we have permission/authorization to have them with us and to get medical care if needed.

Whew- it's a lot to think about, but I can't wait to take my little princess: princess: !!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies!!
