Can we take snacks in our carry-on onto the plane? I've read the TSA website and it refers to liquids and gel type foods (pudding, jello, etc.) but I'm more interested in a granola bar, pop-tarts, etc?

You can take ANYTHING on a plane, including liquids. You can't take liquids and gels past the security checkpoint. If you want to bring along liquid and gel type items, buy them in the airport after you pass the checkpoint (unless they are 3 oz or less and can fit into a quart baggie).

Any food item that is solid (i.e. not a liquid or gel) may be taken past airport security.

Yes, you can bring snacks on the plane. Actually not sure on the pop tarts since they have a jelly inside of them.. but I am sure someone will come on with a difinitive answer...

And as TDC said above, you can take anything on the plane purchased after the security check point.....

Along the same line...I have read on the dis that people have used leftover CS credits to stop at Earl of Sandwich and take it with them to eat later on their way home. Can I take a sandwich thru security?

A sandwich is not a liquid ... or a gel ... or an aerosol. Therefore, there are no restrictions. Mustard or mayo on a sandwich is fine. Packets of mustard and mayo must go in your "3-1-1 bag" or else they can't be carried on.

I am sure you would be considerate, but this does bring back memories of the most unpleasant flight I have ever had. I sat beside this woman who brought two of the nastiest, smelliest sandwiches in the universe and very slowly, sloppily ate them during most of our just-over-an-hour-long trip. I enjoy spicy food but can't imagine bringing sandwiches from home that smelled like those into a small space with strangers and forcing them to smell it. (I guess you can tell I am still not quite over it!)

It was all I could do not to say something to her, as her raw onions and WHATEVER sauce was sooo strong-smelling and not in a good way! She was in the aisle seat and I tried to save my child by having him in the window seat. Everyone around her was grumbling and she appeared oblivious. Thank goodness it was a short flight! :rolleyes1
