I know from past experiance that even 400 speed film is not fast enough to take night time photos of Wishes and Spectro. But I'd really love to capture some of this on film!!!

Anyone have any tips for great (or even decent!) pictures? Thanks!

Using 800 speed is your best option within reason. I have heard that this is the minimum speed to use at night. Don't have any experience however since I am purely digital.

I will be using my digital Cam and then you have the option to take stills from the film...you can just get the right picture then:crazy:

We just got back and I used 200 film. One night for Spectro I used a flash and all the pics came back horrible. The second time we saw it I used the same film with no flash and the pictures are just beautiful...some of the best pics of our whole trip. HTH;)

I used 800 speed film and got some pretty nice spectro pics. I believe I left my flash on, but I'm not sure.

Use a tripod if you want the best in-focus pictures, especially for Wishes. 800 ASA film will work great, but can be a bit grainy. I prefer either 200 or 400 and my tripod.......using my digital camera too.

We purchased a digital camera (sony 5MP) just before our trip. I just went today and NONE of Spectro turned out but a "few" of wishes did. We also too 2 full rolls of Spectro and Wishes with 800speed 35mm film. I am picking it up Thur. morning and am praying they turned out. I read these boards for months before our trip and everyone suggested using 800 with NO flash. Wish me luck.

Have shot SPECTRO many times with 200 film - NO FLASH - and they always come out great. Key is more NO FLASH than speed.

I have shot SPECTRO with digital and they came out just fine. Again, no flash. This will be my first try with Wishes and going to try Digital, we'll see what happens. Concerned about the distance, although I did shoot the castle changing colors from a distance with no problem.

Last year I used 400 speed with no flash and our pictures of Spectro came out fine (didn't take pictures of fireworks). This year we changed to Digital and put it on the night setting and pictures of both Wishes and Spectro came out great. I got some great pictures of the fireworks with the top of the Hall of Presidents building in the picture and they are turely beautiful.

200 speed APS film worked on MSEP for me... I think Spectro, too but can't remember right now.

For Wishes (and other far away, nighttime shots) digital cameras are great. Not necessarily a need for a tripod so long as you have (1) REALLY steady hands (which I definately don't) -OR- (2) have something conveniently flat located nearby to rest your camera on ;). You laugh- but I actually did the latter for all my "nighttime exposure" setting pics.

I am going to try the no flash. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like either 200 or 400 speed w/out a flash is the way to go. My only problem is that every time I turn my flash off on my camera, it flashes anyway. I'll have to see if I can fix that! But I've got plenty of time, as you can see by my countdown clock!

If anyone else has any tips, please keep posting!

I have definitely used a Main St. trash can as a 'tripod' more than once! :p
