Taking Photos in Attractions

I know that flash photography is prohibited in many rides and attractions but how will we know? Is it clearly stated upon entering the attractions that prohibit it? Ideally, I would like a list so that we will know. I don't want to miss out on any photo ops because I am unsure whether or not we can take pictures.

You will know because there will be an "audible" saying on the ride telling you.

ON POTC and HM I know for a fact it says it.

I'll try to find an official list. However any dark ride or movie, and really most all attractions do not allow external lighting.

But that's the problem, you say "most". I need to know which ones do allow it. I would appreciate any sort of list that people may have access to. If they clearly state when it's not allowed, then that's no problem.

I know for a fact that Snow White and Buzz say it too. :sad2: Although I must admit that I have taken pics on Buzz and POTC. I didn't hear it on Buzz the first time and well POTC was when I went with a group to Night of Joy and well it was only kids around so I hardly think they minded. :earseek:

Also Mickey's Phiharmagic and all the other 3D shows say no flash photography :cool1:

I think the only time I didn't know whether or not I could use flash photography was at the Tarzan Rocks show. And that's only because we were seated after the show had started. Otherwise you are told, at each and every attraction that I've been in/on, if you can use flash or not.

Yes the attractions do tell you, however if you have kids, or there are a lot of kids or noisy people around you will miss the announcement. That's what happened to me with Buzz. At least I got some good pics since it's the only time I can. :teeth:

Whether or not they allow it, flash pictures inside attractions generally do not come out very good anyway. It ruins the lighting effects and things that look 'real' or 'picture worthy' to the naked eye will look fake and improperly exposed when lit up with a bright camera flash.

You're better off taking pics without flash for most rides.

You can flash away in Small World, though...it makes no difference...the little devil dolls look the same brightly lit or in dim lighting.

I have been on attractions and folks were taking flash photos and a voice says in a very firm voice - No flash photography!! This is during the ride.
Kind of creepy to know that "they" can see what folks are doing.

I LOVE your sig.

Maybe Disney should add a no flash symbol on the gudiemap legend. Then it would make it clear to everyone (unfortunately not everyone reads them) which rides and attractions don't allow flash. If you look at a guidemap now it show you, which rides, have minimum heights, fast pass, etc. Just an idea.

I think that's a really great idea. I know that people say photos don't turn out but I'm willing to take my chances where I'm allowed. Besides, with a digital camera you can just delte them if you don't like them. I can't go no flash because it would be too dark and those photos never turn out for me.

Good luck trying to take a pic without flash on a moving ride. It's not going to come out good anyway because you'll be moving and the pics are going to look blurry.

I'm not sure if this was directed to me but that's my point. That's why I want to know where I can use flash.

I think most of your dark rides especially ones with animatronics are a no go.

You can do flash at Small World, El Rio del Tiempo, Country Bears Jamboree, Festival of the Lion King, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, Playhouse Disney, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Winnie the Pooh, Fantasmic, Illuminations, Wishes.

You can't do Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Millionaire, Philharmagic, Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, Carousel of Progress, Space Mountain, ToT, Star Tours, Muppetvision 3D, Dinosaur, Peter Pan, Snow White Scary Adventure, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean, Tiki Room, Splash Mountain, Spaceship Earth, Mission: Space, Test Track, Crush, Journey into Imagination, All the 3D shows.

It is clearly stated when you get on the ride or before a show begins. The message will either be that you can't use flash photography and/or videocamera lighting. Off the top of my head, the only attraction we went on last week that didn't allow flash or video lighting was the Little Mermaid show at MGM. (Of course that didn't stop a few people from doing it. :confused3 )

Keep in mind that because many of these rides are dark and the stuff you are trying to take pictures of is far away, many of the pictures you take won't come out or won't look that good. I have had luck in IASW and some shots of Pooh.

That all depends on the equipment you are using and your photography experience, I s'pose. No harm in givin' it the ol' college try!
