I know this has probably been asked many times before, but what is the current situation regarding taking your own food and drinks into the parks?

Security Procedures
For your safety we have increased security procedures and ask for your understanding and cooperation.

Coolers are not permitted in the Parks.
No outside food or drinks may be brought in.
All bags, backpacks or packages will be inspected prior to entering our Parks.
We recommend you leave unnecessary articles in your car and secure valuables in your trunk.
The following items are not permitted: any type of weapon, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, large duffle bags, folding chairs and large umbrellas.
this is from the universal studios website.

I think they would be fine with drinks and snacks. I am not sure what they would say if you brought a big cooler of food. Mind you I have never seen anyone stopped. I do see people eating their own food in the parks, but not many setting up picnics etc. We would tend to bring in our own water and snacks, but since they food is not that expensive we tend to eat in the parks.

The only thing you cannot bring is glass into the park and I don't think they like big cool boxes.
We took sandwiches and yoghurts for our DS aged 2 last year and they never stopped us.
If you are staying in a villa or have a fridge with freezer section my tip is to freeze your bottles of water as you then have chilled water for most of the day as the ice de frosts. ::MinnieMo

If its drinks that you fancy taking in, why not take a look at a Camelbak or similar hydration system (www.camelbak.com). Thiey combine a drinks container (often quite large) with a rucksack and comes in all shapes and sizes.

The drinks capacity can be quite large, you can put the bladder thing in the firidge overnight to make it cold and we found that even in late summer/early fall we could carry enough drinks (and it stayed cold enough) for 2-3 hours.

You can buy them in the UK at bike and camping shops or why not wait 'til you get the States to take advantage of the £:$ rate - makes them about a third cheaper than UK prices?
