Taking Laptop Through Security at BUF

Do they make you take out and turn on your laptop when going through the inspection checkpoint at Buffalo Airport ?

I didn't have to, but they make you take it out of the bag, and put in a seperate bin.

Out of the 3 times we've been through with a laptop - all 3 times we had to take the laptop out of it's case, only once did we have to turn it on but one time they had us open it and not turn it on.
They also had me dump out all the contents of my purse because I had a couple rolls of coins (for penny press machines).

Been through BUF about 15 times in the last year. They ask you to put your laptop in a separate bin but have never asked me to turn it on.
