Taking kids out of school for...

A day skiing at the mountain...what a horrible person I must be! DD6 needs to take a lesson with an Okemo instructor as she just wont listen to me, and I figured, Wednesday they have early release, and it's midweek before Presidents day, so the mountain should be empty...well, except for us locals! Plus its suppose to be upwards of 35-40!

DH and I decided last night that we'd go Wednesday...DD6 had a book report due on Wednesday but she's bringing it in on Tuesday, and DD7 is using a free homework pass she earned earlier last month for wednesday..

Oh bad mommy bad mommy!....guess this is just a precurser to the 7 days they'll miss in April.

They are wicked excited, and feel as though they are doing something "super special" to be out of school for the day LOL

Sounds good to me. Trust me, years from now, they'll appreciate being taken out of school to go skiing much more than they would that one other day at school. The good doing family outings does FAR outweighs the bad of missing a day here and there, IMHO.

I love Okemo! I have not strapped on a pair of skis in 15 yrs though, dh is NOT a skier. I can't believe I married a non-skier.

you know, I have great memories of my parents taking me out of school for a day trip here and there or a day to just "hang" with them. Can I even tell you what my 3rd grade teachers name was? NOPE! but I can tell you in great detail the day my mom and dad and I went to China town in Vancouver BC for the day and went to the Kite store and had tea and lunch in a fancy restraunt ( money was really tight and we didnt get to eat out much then so this was a BIG deal!) and the toy shop we went to and the fun we had together just the three of us. Then we went to the zoo and learned all about wildlife but do you know the most important lesson those days taught me?
To Love and appreciate my family and that these moments, though few and far between, are what life is all about!
oh yeah and that once in awhile its ok to take a "me" day without GUILT!

I married a non-skier too, matter of fact, he'll be taking a lesson at the same time as DD!

He had no desire, until the DD's began their skiing experience, and now he realizes that its just another thing we can do in the winter as a family, sort of like going to the beach in the summer!

We're only about 20 minutes from Okemo, so once they get the hang of it, I'm sure we'll spend quite a few days there!

I chaperone the school program on Sunday's- and for each day I do, I get a midweek full day or weekend 1/2 day...And he poma lift is free always, thats where DD7 and I will be waiting for DD6 and DH to take their lesson, then we'll spend the rest of the morning on the poma...will only cost me $$ to rent DH's skis. The rest of us have our own equipment.

I emailed the Prinicpal at DD's school just now and told her they'd be out, along with sending in a note, and she said "go, have a great time, we'll see them on Thursday"...LOVE that lady!

Older DS and I were just talking about a good "skip school" day trip. We decided Cabela's in Michigan might be just the thing since DH and I both have $500 in certificates to spend from Christmas. Now we just have to find a good day to kidnap DH from work.

Luckily for me, DH owns his company so it's easy to pick the day....and Wednesdays are a slow day for him anyway...

Have fun shopping! I might pull each kid out of school again closer to our trip to go get the essentials, new summer clothes and shoes etc...at the mall. I'll do that one at a time though LOL

I think kids deserve a "mental health" day every once in awhile - just like the parents who take a day off from work "just because"..

And to spend a day doing something "special" with Mom & Dad? I think it's GREAT !!!!

My SIL is a teacher and even she said kids can benefit from being "sick" for a day here and there. Coming from her, that's really something, too - she's one of those teachers who frowns on parents taking their kids out of school for trips. And that includes us, who take our kids out to go to WDW!
