Taking kids out- free dining?

My sis takes her DD8 on vacation all the time during school, she is an excellent student and never has a problem being gone,our mom thinks its crazy~

I agree with a preious poster about the first few weeks being a review.

Teacher here- In my State there is no review at the start of the year. We are straight in to new curriculum.
