Taking first trip "home" ?

Hi everyone. We are in the process of becoming DVC members (it's about time!), and are starting to plan how we are going to use our points. Our first trip on points we will be doing a 3 night cruise followed by five nights at WDW. We cannot decide where to stay (OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV). We're thinking that maybe we should try our home resort "first"? What do you think? Did you stay at your home resort on your first trip down on points?

We like to stay at OKW in May and BWV in early December. Our first trip was in May, so it was OKW even though I own at BWV.

When are you planning your first trip home? If it's this year, you might find limited availability depending on the dates and resort.

Hi Debbie! We're planning on going in January as our first trip home, then again in July (will book this 11 months out for BWV, then decide at the 7 month if we want to stay somewhere else, we'll probably spend 3 nights [Thur-Sat nights] at the GF before moving to the DVC for Sun-Thur nights).

Congratulations on your DVC purchase!

I would be itching to stay at my "home resort" to see what I bought! However, if that's not available or there is some other DVC that you actually think you'll like better than your home resort I'd give that a try. If you are staying in a one-bedroom or larger, you might want to try OKW to give you a totally different experience from hotel life.

I don't think you can go wrong no matter where you end up staying!

Bought DVC Nov 01 with plans to cruise Nov 02. Plans got changed on us so we ended up at PO/FQ. This Nov we are trying once again to get on the ship. Hopefully Oct 04 we'll make our first trip "home".
Like my tag says - "taking the long way home, but first Im stopping for my cheeseburger in paradise"

Congrats on becoming a DVC member! I use to see your posts when I spent more time on the Resorts board.
For our first stay as members, we were at our home resort, VWL--It was great! Since then, we've stayed at OKW, BCV, HHI and plan on VB in Nov. after the 7-day cruise.
It's really up to what you want to do. Good idea to stay at the GF during the weekend...you can have your "Grand", and your DVC too!

yes we did stay at our home resort. it is OKW and that is where we stay every december. this september we are sorta going home for the first time to another resort--beach club villas. however, the sorta being we just bought into villas at WL! but have stayed there.

Our first trip down we did stay at our home resort - Boardwalk. We even got a Boardwalk view - it was a magical trip!

You did it! Welcome Home! Report back on that cruise, we are looking at 4day next year and can't decide to use points or not. Our first trip is to our BCV home. We are also doing GF first and then BCV. Of course since you've helped me so much on the Resort Board on GF that isn't a surprise.

Thanks everyone. I think we might try to try our home resort first. BUT, all the other resorts look wonderful as well! How do you decide with all these options which one to take? Hopefully when we go to make reservations they'll only have 1 or 2 resorts available!

Bella, we did the 4 day cruise this past January and really liked it. Of course, we did pay cash for it. But, we'll most likely be using points for the 3 day, I'm not sure what it'll be like going from a verandah to an inside! Oh, well, atleast we should have a 2BR DVC villa to look forward to after it.
