So I heard about an Obama add that is encouraging people to take the day off on Tuesday to vote. I'm wondering how the crowds (or the perception of long lines) will affect voter turnout.

Take the day off? That's ludicris (oh wait, that's a rapper). Sorry, we're closing down the grocery stores and WalMart and the gas stations because everyone called in today.

I will be peeved if I can't get some donuts from Dunkin!

Donuts??? I need my coffee:surfweb:

well most of his supporters probably don't need the day off.

they wont affect me. Early voting in several states will hopefully help alleviate some of that burden. There was a line of about 20 or so people yesterday when we went to vote. Here in Texas they'd already surpassed the number of early voters from 2004 after the first 5 days of early voting here and it continues until Friday.

Personally, the idea of telling people to take the day off on election day is just irresponsible. When the economy is in trouble, the last thing you need to be telling people is "don't go to work". Does he not comprehend the ramifications of telling the entire country to not work? Think of how much revenue is generated and potentially lost by missing a single day of work. Is there going to be an outcry on Nov. 5th if he loses claiming it was all because the big bad CEO's decided that all his potential supporters couldn't vote in fear of losing their jobs?:sad2: Maybe some of that 3-4 million dollars should be given to help offset the bailout costs instead of some grand party...I hope they're recycling those beautiful styrofoam greek columns from the DNC. ;)

I don't know if I would dare take the day off without pay during these tough economic times.

:lmao: I heard about this. We can see already how brilliant his plans will be for growing the economy. Encourage the economy to shut down for a day. Bloody brilliant. :rotfl2: What an imbecile.

And apparently he wants his supporters to work for him that day. That totally creeps me out. It is like he is activating the chips in his supporters' heads and calling them to duty. ;) Gosh, this whole thing seems like some bad science fiction movie. :sad2:

My wife told me that their union guys get paid to vote. They get paid for 8 but are only required to work 6 on election day.

Sweet.

I have always thought a Presidential election day should be a federal holiday, makes more sense then Columbus Day.

I tend to agree, but since it isn't a holiday I'm not sure it's a good idea to encourage people to take the day off, or to encourage business owners to give their employees the day off.

Be careful what you wish for! Back in the day, you couldn't get a drink in a bar or restaurant till after the polls closed! :scared1:

Why do you guys make everything negative. No one said take the day off without pay. But if you have a personal day available why not? You would reduce your stress while you stand in line because you don't have to be at work, or because your tired after a long day, plus go when those working can't to ease the long lines. In Missouri we don't have the luxury of early voting, so the lines are always looooooooooooooooong.

Which "you guys" are you referring to? Do you feel this is not a legitmate discussion?

I wonder if the Obamabots will take a thermos of Koolaid as they head out to work The One on election day. :3dglasses

I agree. Shutting down commerse isn't a good idea, especially given the circumstances.
