this is somewhat related, can the 6 beers that we can bring onboard be in glass bottles? or are only cans allowed. (at embarkation, not CC) DH's special French beer only comes in bottles and it's been rattling around in my head that if he wants any on the ship we'll need to bring it onboard and I needed to confirm we could.

Yes, you can bring glass bottles of beer on board. As others have said, no glass around the pools.

When you blatantly ignore the rules, the rules usually get changed for the worse. I'd hate to see beer and wine get taken away from us too.

We used to be able to bring any amount of any kind of alcohol on board but were asked to consume it in your own room. Many people clearly ignored that, many advised others to ignore it and how to get around that, then new rules came in to restrict what can be brought on board without being confiscated. Coincidence? I think not. They're in charge, they make the rules whether people like them or not, and continued violations will see more restrictions. I would also hate to see wine being taken away.

You are bringing an item, alcohol, that is allowed to be consumed in your stateroom. Since the cruise sails into Bahamian waters, they collect tax for items consumed within the territory. It is also illegal to carry alcohol over state lines, something that many choose to ignore in the USA.

Simple point being, it is allowed within your stateroom, why do people have to continue to push the limits? It is a DCL policy, and the alcohol inspections at the ports indicate that they are serious about enforcing the policy.

Because it's against the Bahamian law. Taking alcohol off the ship and on to CC is smuggling contraband into another country.

Two years ago. We are going again in June. They had just started the rule. We packed the bottle tightly in our suitcase. You are right, had they known it would of been confiscated. Our drink of choice is vodka, water lime. So drinking that by the pool or around the ship at adult areas looks like water. The beer cans was a beer that they do not serve. I drank those straight out of can and in the wide open at pool. Nobody would ever say anything. We are not big drinkers. Just don't like sugary drinks with weak pours.

What makes you so special that the rules do not apply to you? While people are not happy about all of the changes, it would appear that the best way to show your displeasure would be to sail a different cruise line.

I have one more Disney Cruise in June then done. I prefer a ship with a casino anyway. As for what makes me special. I suppose many things, same as you. I just choose to bend this rule and will in June also. You choose to bend others.

No one is denying it is about money. BUT it is about money because people were not limiting their drinking of their bar set ups (seriously, some people had a full bar in their stateroom - at least if their reports were to be believed) to their cabins and therefore were not buying any drinks from Disney. Abusing the privilege of the more lax restrictions WAS costing them money. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive.

I am sorry for belaboring the point, but this is a chat board, people are allowed to bring alcohol into foreign countries, within limits, on a regular basis. I am not going to look it up, but I suspect a 6-pack of beer purchased outside of the Bahamas and consumed in the Bahamas is not against their laws.

Dang right it is done. I bring alcohol on board also. Nobody has said or would dare tell me where I can drink the beer on the ship. Last cruise I brought a six pack and a bottle of vodka. Between my wife that was more than needed on the 5 day cruise. I did buy a couple drinks but I typically avoid high sugar low alcohol content overpriced drinks.

From what you've said, you do this discreetly. But others might read your words and decide to just carry their obviously-not-purchased-on-the-ship alcohol around so that it's obvious. And that sort of thing is what gets privileges taken from others. No they won't say anything to the person doing it (unless they are belligerently drunk) but they'll just make a blanket rule 6 months later.

Whatever makes you sleep at night. I don't agree. DCL is a business out to make top dollar. That is all. I don't really care how much money my small amount of alcohol brought on board was "costing" them when I dropped thousands, well above the average, to cruise with them. It was one of the things that made them attractive compared to other lines. Judging by the constant price increases, they continue to take things away without giving anything in return. Again, it's all about the money. Don't get me wrong, I love DCL and can't wait till my cruise next month but I don't for one second think that they care about what I think. They care about how much more money they can get once I'm onboard.

Do you think the two new ships in the fleet are being built for free? Maybe you think theyre fronting all the money now and expect to make it on the back end after the ships are cruising?

Im sure alot of other people who blatantly ignored the rules before will adamantly agree with this. It doesnt mean they are right, it just means they don't want to accept a role that the booze they drank out of their stateroom (from their own stash rather than buying from DCL) cost the line revenue. Changing the policy was the best way DCL could ensure the practice was limited. Yes, it was about revenue for DCL and I don't think anyone is arguing against this but to not believe the additional revenue being lost from people drinking their own booze out of their stateroom didn't play a part would be short-sided.

I'm sorry we (I'm guilty as well) have strayed too far from the OP's question. However, rules for personal consumption vs. resale are quite different, and obviously vary from state to state.
