taking an Umbrella and dealing with weather tips

I am just updating- I polled here about taking umbrella, general consensus was NO- I so should have,lol.
It was so bad last week, I bought one at CVS. It leaked. Ponchos sucked after a while and carrying a baby under one was a pain. I had to wear a hat to keep pincho over my head due to wind. I also should have invested in better ponchos, but read the walmart ones were fine. With how many cheapies we went thru, I could have bought a nice one. They blew up and let rain in, they flew off of strollers, and they tore when carrying baby alot (he pulled on it in wrap). I left stroller covers home thinking they are laerger and how much rain can you get- huge mistake and underestimate!
I know some ppl said its bad to use umbrella due to poking and safety- I found it to not be an issue at all, I am short and DH taller and neither had issues. Ppl were courteous mostly, and so many ppl had them, I dont think my one more umbrella was an issue.
Dont wear white pants in the rain I did.
I wore crocs capris and that was a good thing- dried fast.
So even if you dotn think you will need umbrella, take it-you can leave it back in the room but better to have it-JMO.

We don't use Umbrellas as we find them to not be effective for the Quick flash storms that WDW is known for.

Now I know here lately it has been anything but the norm but Rain coming sideways i just don't see how they would help.

I have no problem with others using them as I have found they are no more dangerous then those with Strollers that don't pay attention and think they are the only ones in the Parks . Rude ME people will be just that So I just watch out for them.

We mainly Wear fats drying cloths ,keep a few Ziploc bags for Cells and just let the Rain come . For shoes I have several very good WaterShoes I wear and DW does the Crocs thing. DD switches around and does flipflops as well.

we also do the Ponchos on occasion but not that much, we have the Disney ones and have had them replaced after using for a few years as the buttons rip . Disney ones might cost more but at anytime you can walk into any store and they will replace them is damaged

Glad to hear you didn't have a problem with umbrellas. Unfortunately that hasn't been our experience as not every guest is as careful as you were. I still believe its better to recommend against using umbrellas in crowded situations.

I've grown to hate the cheapie ponchos that are nothing more than plastic wrap. They blow so much, we had to weigh them down with clothespins just to keep them on. You are right, they tear WAY too easily.

I've learned it is worth the extra money for a full blown raincoat, especially the ones with hoods that you can tighten around your face.

I still buy a couple of cheap ponchos as stroller covers, and use the clothespins to keep them from coming off while we are on a ride.

The cheap ponchos are fine for keeping you dryer on water rides...but as everyone has stated...in real rain they're a pain.
I prefer to use them with a tiny totes umbrella because I don't want to carry a bulky sturdy poncho.
