Taking Amtrak,Orlando vs Kissamee?

We, DD (who isn't fond of flying) and my 3 year old grandson (who is prone to ear infections and can't fly) are taking Amtrak from Penn Station NY . We were told by the Amtrak agent that the Kissamee stop was closer to WDW but that 90% of the people use the Orlando stop because "it has more services".My DH will be picking us up so we won't need Mears,TTC,etc. However, I am alittle worried about the "more services" at Orlando remark. Is the Kissamee station really small? Will my husband be able to find it? He will be coming from Tampa. Will there be someone there,such as a porter, to help get our bags off the train? Is it worth it to get off at the Kissamee station??? Does anyone know just how much closer it is than the Orlando station? Any info would be apprecitated. I did a search using the word Kissamee but couldn't find any of this info. Thanks again fellow Dissers

We did Philly to Kissemee a few years ago, and yes the station is very small, it reminded me of something from the old west! There was no one at the station when we arrived except a couple of taxi cab drivers! It is a little closer then Orlando, but probably harder to find. Orlando is a big station with everything you would expect at an Amtrak station, in my opinon if I were you, I would get off at Orlando.

I don't think Kissimee is a "checked baggage" station. If you board the train in NYC with Kissimee as your destination you will not be able to check your luggage into the baggage car. You will have to carry all your luggage on the train.

I know for sure Orlando is a "checked baggage" station. In NYC you can check your luggage into the baggage car and not have to worry about it until you get to Orlando. You just need to take an overnight bag on board.

When we took the train from Penn Station NY we went to Orlando. Kissimmee is closer to WDW, but you get off the train about 20 minutes sooner in Orlando.

THANK YOU all soooo much. As you read in my prior post, we were thinking of getting off the train in Kissamee,but after reading your replies we have now decided to get off in Orlando.Your replies were very helpful. When ever I have a question I know that I can always count on my Dis friends. Any other comments, suggestions,or advice is always appreciated. . Thanks again to everyone. P.S. I feel much better knowing that we have decided on Orlando. I was feeling alittle leery about Kissamee from the start.
