I've done one week trips in Kindergarten & 1st grade. Will be doing another one week trip this year too (2nd grade). My son has consistently been way above average. To date, I have not been concerned with him catching up & he always has.
I live in NJ and there is an attendance policy. On the 10th absence you need to meet with the Principal (who is very against taking kids out for vacation; wrote a piece in the monthly newsletter blasting parents who did last year). On the 15 absence you meet with someone from Board of Education and on the 20th absence they have the right to hold the child back.
My only fear has been if I take DS out for a week & then he gets sick and needs to take off several days and we pass 10 absences. I think I would cower in a meeting with this firm Principal (which you would actually laugh at if you knew what I did for a living
I never cower!).
I would not do two weeks.
Have a great trip - whatever you decide.
