So, how many of you have a young person shadowing you at work today?

I had totally forgotten about this annual event until last night. Our company used to go all out for Take Your Child To Work Day with tours of the facility and other organized activities. Now, we get donuts and juice in the morning and are then sent on our merry way.

My kids are on spring break, so instead of missing a day of school to shadow dad at work, Sarah is missing a day of vacation. :(

Good luck to all the mentors today.

DD is with dh today working, let's see how it goes.;)

Wow I didn't even know it was Take your child to work day. It use to be a big deal, now I missed it, so no they didn't go to work with me today. They have been before and I almost have to beg one of them to go with me. They think I have the most boring job in the world. On the other hand, I think I have the most wonderful job in the world.

Pete has school today but I am springing him at 2:35 pm. :teeth:

I didn't even know, but my DD wouldn't be too excited because she is with me at work everyday before and after school and all summer long. Though she would have loved to go to work with her Dad.

Melinda

Our DS (11) went to work with DH. This is the first time that he has wanted to go.

It's not my day to work - only a four hour shift at the library but all my kids have visited me there for short periods of time. My husband's work used to have a special day for 11 and ups but they are currently under heavy security due to terrorist activity and nobody is allowed onsite. I've never been beyond the security checkpoint. My kids are bummed that they can't do this though.

My DD comes to work with me often. Sometimes she even works there and gets paid! So going to work with me is no big deal. But she always complains about the other kids getting out of school for the day. So I'm springing her at noon and we are going shopping for paint and accessories for her room. DS couldn't care less about any of this!

Both kids went to work at the flower shop with Sue this week. The difference is that Sue puts our kids to work when the go with her.

I guess that it's not much of a spring break when both parents work.

I thought about taking my DD to work with me today. She is on vacation this week and where she is going she has friends to play with and can go swimming. I feel she would be bored here. It is just me in the office today so it would be a bit boring for her.
She comes with me sometimes when school has a snow day and I have no place to send her.

Sarah survived until lunchtime. MIL Marge and DS James drove up to meet us for lunch at Skyline Chili. Sarah opted to go home with them.

I showed her around our new office area. I also took her on a tour of our engineering labs and production area. She even got a peek at our newest product, a combination CT and PET scanner. But the rest of the morning I worked on a unit test document and she played on the internet. That used to be a big deal, but now that we have a cable modem at home, there's not much of an advantage anymore.

I noticed that a lot of sons and daughters went home at lunchtime today.

Unofficially, today became an impromptu "Take your son to work day" for me, when Nicole called me right before lunch and said that her and Cameron were going to come downtown to meet me for lunch. We stopped up to my office briefly to say hi to a few people and grab something off my desk.

Then, the lunch was cut short because someone suddenly wanted to go to the Zoo (not Nicole ;) :teeth: )

My DD(14) and DS(12) went to work with my mom today. They always go with her on this day and Shawdowing Day (Groundhog Day). They both love it!!:D

My dd went to work with her Aunt who happens to work for Coach Inc. I sure hope she comes home with a handbag for her Mom :teeth:

Yes, Josh had a ball as a 7th grader.

He did some work in the office, and did his regular school work.
Then he did a Language Arts class, and Reading class...

He did the 7th grade work as well... some comprehension/recalling questions. He even took the book with him to lunch to finish the work! He then was with me in Science classes....

I was so bummed - not one of my coworkers brought their kids to work today. :( I always look forward to seeing the kids at work on this day. Mine are too young to go.

My ds (8) followed my dh today at work. DH works at a bank. He got a name tag and an orientation to the bank. He watched a what to wear fashion show and they even showed not appropriate things to wear to work. He learned the life cycle of a check and also learned how to write a check. He learned about online banking, customer service and how to use the business phone. Each child received a certificate with a group photo on it, the date and their name. They also received a goody bag packed full of neat items. Even though my son enjoyed his day with his dad he said it was kind of boring. Now he has a sense of what we parents do to bring in the "bacon".;)
