Hi fellow cruisers, I am hoping one of you guys can hop over to the below thread and provide some factual information about Norwalk occurance on board DCL? I read the below post, and it bothered me. Not trying to pick on the OP that wrote it, but would like to get the statement clarified. Or even that website reposted. THanks

We were booked to go on a Disney Cruise this August. We booked 1 1/2 years in advance and got a really good rate - $2400 for 6 of us (allseastravel.com). We had to put $1200 deposit down. Well, my sister-in-lawa and 2 kids went on a Disney Cruise this past December and one of her sons came down with the Norwalk or Norfolk Virus. Ruined their whole trip There were a number of people who caught this on the trip. Apparently this is more common on Disney.
Well, my husband is a germ fanatic and refuses to go after hearing this. So I had to cancel, got our $1200 refund and am using this to pay for our hotel part of our trip. We are DVC members so this deposit paid $1200 of our $1400 dues which we are staying 10 nights in a 2 bedroom at BVC.
For us, financially it was better to do Disney rather than a DIsney cruise. I would like to do a Disney cruise someday, but I am also a little reluctant after my sister-in-law's trip.

Sorry to be contrary, but where have you gotten this information about Norwalk being more prevalent? I have to disagree with you on that one. I have sailed DCL 4 times and have never come across any instance of Norwalk. In fact. the only time that I am sure that Norwalk was on on the ship was back in November of 02 I think, when there were a number of cruise ships that had it, and DCL canceled a sailing becasue of it. THey are very good at trying to prevent it. Upon check in, they aski if you have experienced any flu like systems, and ask if you have that you do not board trhe ship. In every bathroom on board the ship there are reminder signs about washing you hands, and the proper way to wash. I just really disagree with the above statement, and would not want someone on the DIS to get misonformation. In fact, a few months ago, someone on the cruise boards posted a link to a site that listed rare events at seas, and DCL was barely listed.

ive been on 4 cruises and have had no problems with norwalk or even being sick at all. Disney is also very good to prevent this type of illness from happening so i really dont know where this person got the information.

From watching over the last couple years....IMO...I don't feel the norwalk virus is MORE of a problem on DCL...but just the oppisite. Alos if you keep an eye on patterns...it seems to be more of an issue in the fall/winter and maybe early spring...simular to flu season. Also to add it's not something DCL can control 100%...but has to be left up to cruisers who decide to travel with flu like symptoms. A cruise ship is like a small enclosed city...and any time you get that number of people together theres bound to be some outbreaks of something...I think if you took a city with the same number of people as you would have on a cruise ship...you would find close to the same number of outbreaks of the flu or other viruses.

There are things you can do to protect yourself....like frequent handwashing....especialy before eating and always after using the restroom.

Thank yall but could you post this info on the thread I linked to in my OP? THanks
