We will be eating Breakfast on the go, either in hotel room or cont breakfast complimentary (DoubleTree) so we want to try some restaurants but can't really afford every day. So far my Dh and I are looking at Whispering Canyon, O'Hana's, would like to do the SCi Fi at MGM for the kids, it looks too fun, maybe Kona for breakfast one day and either Hard Rock or House of Blues. Maybe Rainforest Cafe too. What do you think? Any suggestions?

I have 3 boys who are 12 and twins who are 9 yrs !

I don't know where you live but, personally, I would not go to Disney and do Rainforest, Hard Rock, or House of Blues. These are all over the country and aren't really "Disney" to me. They can be had at other vacation areas. But....if you never have access to them then I can understand why you would go. I'm sure many people will disagree with me on this and, as you know, it's just one person's opinion.

My kids always loved the Hoop-Dee-Doo when they were younger. But at this point, your 12 year old may not be too thrilled with it.

You might think of a breakfast buffet later in the morning as you can usually skip lunch if you do that.

Are your boys into sports? If so consider ESPN Club at the Boardwalk.

Also, NBA City and NASCAR Cafe are fun if your guys like basketball or NASCAR racing (even if they don't both are a lot of fun). Sci-Fi is my kids favorite-I love it too!! We also always go to Rainforest Cafe. Hard Rock is a great spot as long as you enjoy the loud music.

IMHO the atmosphere is great at Sci-Fi but the food is not very good and very overpriced. The best way to experience Sci-Fi is to make a late afternoon PS for just shakes or dessert. We have done this a few times and it makes for a nice midday break and you don't have to eat their regular food. :)

The Rainforest Cafe is fun. We have eaten there twice. Decent food and the atmosphere is fun. We don't have one anywhere near us. If we did we would probably not eat there just because we like to eat at places at Disney that we can't at home.

'Ohana is a fun place for families. I don't know anything about Whispering Canyon.

As mentioned I would skip Rainforest and Hard Rock. We have Rainforest here in Detroit so we get our fix. It's neat to experience and my kids love the atmosphere.

I would definitely do Kona for breakfast. Whispering Canyons is fun and your kids will probably really get into it at their ages. I agree with the idea that eating at Sci Fi is neat but the food is not that great. We love Brown Derby at MGM but it is pricey. My oldest DS is 8 and loves this place! You might go into shock though when the bill arrives. His other favorites include FlameTree BBQ at AK. It's counter-service but the food is excellent. We loved it so much last trip we ate there twice. We have done Ohana's and loved the atmosphere but the food wasn't what we were expecting -- kind of dry. If your kids are adventurous, you might want to consider Boma at AKL. It's buffet and you get to try all sorts of different things.
