Hello!
We were married in Japan in 2009 and we used the Taiko drummers.
YES!! They were
totally worth it. There were one of my favourite parts of our wedding. Our guests of all ages loved them too. They said you could hear them playing when they got off the bus and walked to the pavilion, and this really set the mood. One mother also told me that it helped her toddler stay interested and avoid a meltdown!
We used them to drum in the guests, for my (the bride's) entrance and for our exit as a married couple. I really recommend getting drummed in as the bride. It's quite spectacular. To help keep costs down, we just asked for Epcot's background Japanese music to be playing the whole time. This meant we didn't have to pay for any music setup, because the background music was free and appropriately themed! They did warn me that the music plays the whole time though, and this was fine for our small wedding. If you have a large wedding though, you may need to have a mic system to be heard over the music.
I honestly can't remember the price... but you may want an answer about price from pirate's princess anyway, since she got married a while after I did and would have a more updated answer. I wll say though, that we were quoted a price for three drummers, and a higher price for four. We went with the three, and it was plenty! We also requested that "wedding appropriate" music be played. I just clarified this by saying that I didn't want it to sound like we were going to war! They did a great job. (In case you don't get another answer... I THINK the price was around $1200 for the drummers? I remember thinking it was steep, so we cut in other places (flowers, other music, decor) to have them, and it was MORE than worth it!! We found the
Passporter book a great help in figuring out where to cut and save!)
If you end up going for Japan, I would be happy to help with more info! It really is a spectacular location for a wedding.
EDIT: I just looked it up on my BEO, and it was $1200 for 3 drummers, and $1560 for 4 drummers in 2009! HTH!
