I am wondering how much tae kwon do in your area costs. My son just started a week ago on a trial and the instructor wants to know if we will be continuing. I know my son loves it so I will keep him in, however, I want to make sure that the amount he is charging is comprable to everything else before I sign a contract. The place he is at is $95 per month if you sign a 6 month contract and $115 per month if you do not. It is unlimited classes but he only recommends 2-3 times a week but if you want to come more it is fine. My son is 6 and this seems like a bit of an investment (it's considerably more than my dd's dance) so I wanted to get input before I went ahead with it. Thanks in advance!

My son does RyuKyu Kempo karate. It is 35.00 every 6 weeks.

$60 a month with a two year contract, $72 a month with a one year contract, those are our two options. DS10 began TaeKwonDo when he was 7 and it's been worth every penny! It's really helped his focus and balance, along with the tenets of respect, courtesy, etc. being taught.

We're in southcentral Kentucky...seems like the normal rate for our area. If your area has higher overhead costs (rent, insurance, etc.), it could very well be the figures you were quoted are sound.

65.00 a month for 3 times a week. Once they get up to Green belt it goes to 85.00 a month and it is 4 times. You really do have to go at least 3 times since 2 days are form, one is sparring and the other is board breaking and they need all those for testing.

It depends on where you live I guess. My DD12 did tae kwon do for a few years (she got to high blue belt). It was about 90 per month about 3 years ago. She absolutely loved it from white belt to orange belt. When she got to green belt she started sparring other students and she hated it. She was bigger then most of the kids in her belt class so had to spar with kids with higher belts. She not a very aggressive person so the last year of tae kwon do was a fight to get her to go to class. It wasn't worth making her do it when she really hated it, that's when we gave up.

In Wisconsin TaeKwonDo was $75.00/month

since we moved to GA he now does KumDo(Korean Sword) and that is $1500/year!!!! Which I think is a bit pricey!!!!(125/month)

Wow you guys have it cheap. We pay $10/lesson or $140/mo. for unlimited. Right now DS10 is going 2 times a week. They are small classes - no more than 4 and many times he is the only one in the class so he's getting a private lesson. He started in Dec with his white belt, made yellow in January and will test for green belt in March.

For my son, tae kwon do is $85 per seven week session. That is two days per week for an hour each day.

My son and husband pay $170 a month for 2 classes a week with a 1 year contract. That's total, not $170 pp.

Unlimited classes offered $1200 a year second child $900 and sword class another $1000!!! (twice a week) I have a black belt 12 year old- the one that is taking the sword class too. And a soon to be red belt dd9. They love it and it has done wonders for their self esteem.

For a year, we pay $188 per month, which includes unlimited classes for DH and 2 DSs. Sword fighting is also included, which DH and our 14 yr. old do. We used to pay $140 for DH and one DS.

We pay about $90 per month for unlimited classes, with extra for special programs like Black Belt Club and Master's Club. (These are the weapons and other special training classes.) Belt testing every 3 months costs extra, about $35 for beginners, $45 for intermediate, $55 for advanced, and $250 for Black Belt. I'd better pass my black belt exam the first time! My mom says if I fail I have to pay for the second time.

Different schools charge different rates. We pay $100 per month, but the kids have all been going for 12 years now. Unlimited class time.
Lower rank belt testing ran $40 each level
Black belt testing runs $495 per student
1st degree was $495 plus $40 per each belt
Black belt uniforms cost more as well.

Even though it gets expensive, it has been well worth it.

My school is $99 per month for unlimited training and $74 per month for 2X per week. There are discounts fro multiple family members. This school started at the local Y and that time was $35 per month for 3 X per week.

Just wondering how many are typically in the classes. I really liked the fact that at DS's dojo there are only 4 in each class and often times he has the sensei to himself.

It was $95 a month for unlimited classes, with testing being $50 a belt. Now that DS is in Black Belt Club, we pay $125 a month, still unlimited classes, but now the classes are 45 minutes instead of a 1/2 hour (the last 15 minutes is BBC stuff, weapons, etc.). Tests are still $50 until he gets up to red belt (he's a blue belt now).

Our son has been going since he was 7, and he is now about to turn 12, so he's been doing it five years... Our school requires a contract, I think the first contract was six months, the second contract was a year, now we are at the end of a two year contract, so I'm not sure what is next..

But, to answer the question, we pay a flat hundred dollars a month... for him it's been the best money spent IMHO, it's made him very confident, and more outgoing I think.

Be prepared for the routine fee's that are extra however.... everytime you go up a belt it's fifty dollars for the testing fee.... until you get to black, then it's more like two hundred, I don't really recall how much we paid for black belt testing, but we have to pay it in June when he tests for second degree black.....

Then there are the tournaments... DS sticks with karate just for the tournaments, he loves to compete, that's his thing.....

For two years DS went four times a week before he got his black belt nearly two years ago. In his classes, there have been times when he has been the only student, and other classes where he's one of 30, that they then will split into different groups depending how many instructors are in... it is possible to have 20 to a group with just one instructor at this level...

Our daughter on the other hand only stuck with karate for three months, it turned out not to be a great fit for her, so every child is different.

We have classes that range from sometimes as low as 2 students per class to sometimes 28 or more! Average is about 15, though, and when we have enormous classes we always split into groups.
