What does everyone put in their Taco Salad? I had some recently and it was great. Im not sure what was in it, but there was a certain flavor that made it so good...I just couldnt place it. Wondering if anyone has any "secret" ingredient recipes for Taco Salad. Something might ring a bell with me.
Thanks!

I first put the refried beans on the bottom of the dish......then I mix the sour cream and cream cheese together with a pkg of taco seasoning mixed in it.....I put that mixture on the top of the refried beans...then a jar of salsa that is drained.....put it on top of that.....then chopped tomatoes and scallions or what they call green onions...I then put on some of my most favorite green guacomole....with shredded cheese sprinkled on top of that.......sometimes I put black olived on top .....sure is good

Ohhhh pumba, that sounds so good. That actually sounds similar to a nacho dip I make, but with a few extra ingedients. Ill have to try those in mine next time. Yummy! Thanks!

Im thinking more of a dish thats all mixed up with cooked ground beef, crunched nacho chips, shredded lettuce, salsa or cut tomatoes(not sure), and possibly some kind of sauce.

We used to have this often when DS was small. He loved it! I've substituted great northern beans at times because DH doesn't like kidney beans - the skins are too tough.

Taco Salad
1 lb ground meat
3/4 c water
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 head lettuce
2 c kidney beans
1 - 2 c Cheddar, grated
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 - 2 c carrots, grated (opt)
1/2 bottle French dressing
taco chips, crushed
Prepare meat as for tacos with water & seasoning; chill thoroughly. Toss with lettuce, beans, cheese, tomatoes, carrots & half the chips. Pour dressing over all & mix. Top with remaining chips. (Use plain chips or Doritos.)

I hope this is what you are looking for. The original recipe came from the More With Less cookbook.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post. The first time it said I wasnt authorized to access this post(hello???? I wrote it?:D )
Anyway, French Dressing may have been that mystery ingredient I was thinking of. I will have to try that. Thanks! BTW, Ill skip the beans too, since I dont like them either. ;)

I just remembered . . . this is really good when shredded chicken is used instead of the hamburger. Just season it the same way.

Re: the French Dressing - I was surprised when I read what was in this. We never use French Dressing on salads as I'm not crazy about it - too sweet I think. (I like vinegar based ones.) It's really quite good, though.

PS I've been having the same kind of posting problems - even trying to view pages. I tried to load this thread from the email notification & got the "invalid user" thing, too.

I used to use ground beef but now I have discovered Tysons fresh ground chicken and use that instead. (for taco salad and every thing else!) Also the french dressing we like to put on is Catalina. Otherwise we also add the seasoning packet to flavor the meat following the directions on packet. Also lettuce, tomatoes, tortilla chips broken up.

I use crushed up Doritos (sp.) Nacho-flavored chips. Also, the Spicy Doritos work great too. It gives the salad a great taste. Try it instead of the plain chips.
