Is the TIW card worth it? Maybe i'm thinking of this wrong, but it saves you 20% as some places, but adds 18 % tip back in? Is the 18% on the original amount?

Just wondering if the $75 would pay for itself in two trips.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Amount of Bill
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

If you spend $375 in food and beverages in eligible restaurants you will have paid for the membership. To get further discounts from it you must spend more.

I think it's worth it as long as you spend at least $400 in food and drink, which is pretty easy to do in two trips. The 18% does get added on, but I like that I just don't have to do math then to figure out how much to leave. And don't forget, it's also good on alcohol, and those drinks add up fast.

You would be tipping at a sit down meal anyway so you still save money. I see people ask that all the time.....but if it adds in the tip I won't be saving money. The only way you won't save money is if you don't tip to begin with. The tip is always on the original amount.

We saved a lot as when my DH and myself went during F&W we liked to drink our alchoholic beverages.

ccgirl is right--you were going to tip anyway, this just makes it automatic.

And depending a bit on where and how often you eat, TIW is well worth it..especially if you can use it on 2 trips.

Since this seems to be revolving more on the tip and less on general Tables In Wonderland discussion, we are closing this thread and referring everyone to the Tipping Sticky at the top of the forum.
