Tables in Wonderland. . . To buy or not to buy?

So can you still make reservations 180 days out on TIW if you are staying on prop or do you have to have DDP for that? Also is there any restrictions on the dinner shows eg. hoop dee do, etc?

Anyone can make an ADR 180 days prior to the dining date.

If you are staying at a WDW Resort Hotel (including DVC Resorts), you can make up to 10 days worth of dining reservations 180 days prior to your check-in date.

For the Hoo-Dee-Doo, the TiW discount is only available for the 9:30pm show.

Yes you can. Reservations have nothing to do with dining plans. In fact, online they don't even ask if you have a dining plan.

Hi,

I'm a soon to be DVC member and myself, DW, and two DD (7 and 9) will be taking a trip per year. If I've read the rules correctly, I can purchase one AP for myself using the DVC discount, standard park hopper tix for everyone else, a TIW card, and still use the TIW for discounts for the whole family as long as I am picking up the check?

That would seem to still be a good deal going forward (for us) even for one vacation per year, especially considering the renewal AP at the DVC discount is around 50 dollars less the following years.

Correct. One TiW card is good for the card holder and up to 9 additional guests on a single check.

Ok I guess I am not clear .I am assuming that the tip is added before the 20 % off but they don't take 20 % off the tip ? right? How does that work?

Discount first, then tip, sorta.

They take 20% off the entire bill BEFORE tip and tax.

They then add 18% tip (based off the pre-discounted entire bill) to the transaction.

For example:

Bill = $100
Discount = $20
Tip = $18

Final bill = $98+ tax (which, I'm pretty sure, is levied on the "pre-discounted, pre-tip bill amount).

Basically, assuming you would have tipped 18% anyway, your total bill went from $118 to $98 (again, ignoring tax).

Thanks that is what I thought I was doing this when figuring If I want this for meals or just cocktails ,I have a family of 8 and I think after checking prices and the dinning plan I may just get both and use TIW for cocktales I guess I don't see an advantage to TIW for food it seems to me one sit down per day will cost me as much as the meal plan for my family a day

To recoup the $75 cost of the TiW card, you would need to spend $375 pre-discount on food and beverages.

I also add in the value of free valet parking when considering my break even point. I love that feature of the card, especially since we don't get it as a perk any more. TIW for us is great. We too like the flexibility. I always think people who get the dining plan don't really consider that one usually doesn't eat dessert with every meal. We would never eat the way the dining plan forces you to. It is no baragain if you ask me. TIW on the other hand lets me eat what I want, when I want, and I get to park for free too.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

This why we are switching to TIW this year (well not to mention this is the first time we are getting an AP (three trips in 12 months :cool1: ). My son turned 10 and although we really enjoyed the DDP, I will not pay for him as an adult when he still eats like a kid.

I feel the same way about my now 3 yr old. He has to pay kids price with his brother and yet they split a meal at most TS restaurants - so do my husband and I. Long ago when tips were included, the DDP was more worth it. now - not so much. We have two trips one of 8 days and the other of three and I am sure we will save a bucket using TIW.

I think that TIW is totally worth it now that the price of the DDP has gone up again and you now only save 20% on DDP. Free dining is another story but if you have to pay for DDP i would choose TIW. For $75 I get 20% off everything Apps, food, adult bev's,eat what I want and have more restaurants to choose from,I am able to use it for 13 months where DDP is just till midnight the day you check out. We will be using TIW next week for a weekend trip and it will be paid for after this trip and when we go back in June we'll save even more....seems to me DDP is not much a value and the only thing good about it is is your meals are pre-paid

I totally agree!

We will have DDP and TiW for our May trip. If we are only using TiW for one or two apps and a couple glasses of wine, can we still use the free valet option? Or will they be looking for us to have eaten like a party of four would?
thank you!

As long as you have a receipt showing the TiW discount you should be okay. The valet will still expect a gratuity.

Thank you. I figured we would be ok but wanted to make sure! We always make sure we have cash for tipping the valet also.

We are staying at POP on our next two trips and I was planning a lot of off-site eating. I'm very excited that CS at POP is included. I'm definitely getting TIW now. That will pretty much even up the prices with off-site meals and now I'll save gas money. Might make a couple of TS meals doable too. Especially since half of our second trip will consist of about 20 people. Now they just get to fight over who gets to eat with me to get the discount. ;)
