I currently have a TiW card which will expire on June 30, 2011. My AP was bought on the same day and expires May 13, 2011. Before that, I going one more time to WDW, in January. The next visit after that will be in September, but by then I probably won't have an AP anymore.

If I would buy a new TiW card in January, will the validity start right away or could I ask them to post-date it? If that's possible, what would be the latest to have it postdated?

I believe when you buy a TIW card, the validity can only start on that date.

You do not have to be at WDW to buy the TIW card though. You can call or email them and start the process of renewing before your AP expires. I would try to do that around mid-April. That way, you can have a valid TIW card to use for a longer time than if you were to buy a new one in January.
