Tables in Wonderland question

Looking into TiW, I had a question after seeing this from the official website:

  • Tables in Wonderland memberships are nontransferable. In order to apply the discount, the Tables in Wonderland member must be in attendance during the meal; present their Tables in Wonderland membership card, along with a driver’s license or state ID; and pay for the meal.
  • Credit cards that are used for payment must match the name on the Tables in Wonderland card and the state identification.
Am I reading too much into this and that it will not allow a TiW cardholder to use a Magic Band to pay? Seemed weird if that was the case, but who knows....

Unless things have changed in the past few years, Tables in Wonderland cardholders may use their Magic Bands to pay. TIW holders may not, per the rules, use the discount when paying with someone else’s Magic Band or someone else’s credit card.

I think you've read to much into it...try putting the emphasis here: Credit cards that ARE used for...

I hope that helps. But, any form of payment can be used; cash, a gift card, etc. But, when a credit card is presented as payment, then it must have the same name as on the TiW. Again, I hope this helps.

Oddly enough, during our August trip we had 15 TS meals and only one place asked me for ID when presenting the TiW card. The last time we used TiW (back in 2014), they were much much more diligent with checking. Obviously my experience is a small sample size, but I was pretty surprised by the lack of verification this time around.

Same here. The only time I was asked for an ID was with the AP discount and not the TIW. In August we were able to pay cash, credit card, and with the Magic band using TIW. It is very flexible. Definitely worth the cost of the card for us with meals and alcohol included.

Being local, we use TiW frequently. Our incidence of having to provide ID with TiW is probably greater than 50%. Its been a while since I've had an on-property stay, but charging to a MB is not a problem with TiW.

Simple answer, the person whose name is associated with the TiW card must be the person who pays for the meal for each person to get the TiW discount. We have used our MBs, credit cards and disney rewards card wihtout any issues. Later on, we settle up on what the others with us owe for the meal.
It varies by server whether I need to show an ID. I would agree that its about 50% of the time.

I would not let the server know that you are using TiW until time to pay. When I used it the first trip they would find out and never come back to the table if they didn't have to. My son was looking forward to Crystal Palace because I called him Pooh Bear as a child (this was in 2012), and he said it was the worst meal we had all trip because of the service. After that, I stopped telling them until the bill came and I got great service!

I'll second this. Not that I've had a bad experience otherwise, but I think it keeps them on their toes.

We have had TiW for several years. I cannot think of a single restaurant where the service was worse because we told them we had the TiW card.

Same. I'm not sure why a server would provide worse service because someone is using the TiW discount. The 18% tip is calculated on the order total, not the total after the discount, so the server isn't getting shafted because of the discount. And I always add additional tip to bring it up to 20%. I'm sure I'm not the only one and I doubt servers who care about doing a good job would take it for granted or do a worse job because someone is using a discount card.

We just got APs and are considering adding TiW. Usually when we go we have a cc tied in with the bands and don't carry anything else. Sounds like the TiW requires carrying the membership card and additional ID? It's not denoted on the MB?

Correct, TiW will not be linked to your MB. So, in this case, its just as simple to carry the TiW card, an ID, & a form of payment (for me is usually a GC).

Also, I recommend anyone with AP or TiW download the MousePerks app to your phone. Its a quick resource to see where, when, & how much discounts will be & you can filter by location.

Also, I never try to assume whether a discount is available or not, I begin EVERY transaction with 'I have an AP & TiW, any discounts?' Making sweeping generalizations like 'TiW isn't accepted at QS locations' is incorrect & you don't want to miss an opportunity because you didn't ask.

I also forget multiple times per year that TiW auto adds the tip at a TS meal & I end up adding a second tip, which would be fine but often happens at a meal where its not deserved.

Not sure, but I think the people saying this think a guaranteed 18% is a great tip (they may be correct given the wide variety of guests, some from countries that don't have a culture of tipping) and that if the server is sure he or she will get it, they have no incentive to provide good service. Like you, we have never had this type of experience and I seriously doubt whether or not you have the card makes any difference to the server. That said, TIW is not any sort of dining plan, so there's no reason to mention it at the outset if you are concerned about it leading to poor service.

This sounds amazing, but I couldn't find it in the App store. Is it only for Android phones?

When using TiW they can ask you for ID and the credit card does have to match the cardholder. On our Feb trip, the server wouldn't allow one of our friends to pay for the meal with his credit card because it's in his wife's name (she was sitting beside him). She had to pay with her credit card even though her credit card is joint with his. The server told us they are cracking down on non-matching payment/cardholder and they can be reprimanded if they allow the non-holder to pay and get caught. When you pay with MB, they can see who the MB owner is. I suppose it's possible that you are borrowing someone's MB to pay for the meal along with another person's TiW, but I'd think that less likely than just borrowing someone else's TiW card. Now, what credit card you have on file for payment using MB they don't ask about. On our trip a week ago, I had my CC on file, DH has the TiW card and paid using MB but my credit card is a subsidiary of his but in my name. We have, however, never paid for a meal using TiW with a physical credit card - DH always uses his MB. I don't think he was ever asked for photo ID for TiW use.

People think that bc the tip is guaranteed that the server doesn’t care to give good service.

Except the server would know that a guest can talk to the manager about atrocious service and have the tip taken off. So that wouldn’t be bright of them.

We’ve gotten good and bad service with it without telling them about TIW.

We were once at the brewery at boardwalk with extended family. Both groups had TIW. One person got atrocious service out of 8 of us. Just one. Everything that could go wrong with her order did. Everything the server could have done to help it wasn’t done. All the while the server was helping the rest of us perfectly! It was absolutely bizarre. My family left the tip. The extended family talked with the manager.

Sometimes servers are just weird.

Yes carry your ID.

And always carry it. If you step off a curb and break your leg and end up at the ER, how far will your band take you? Not far. They’ll want your ID and insurance card as soon as possible (and I’ve been hounded for those things to the point where I could barely focus on the reason we were at the ER). Might as well have them.

The bands were touted as all you need for about a week. At that point I think Disney’s lawyers had a word with their marketing people and that stopped. Charging statesman can go down; being a method of payment. If someone wants a drink they might be carded; bring the ID. Bring the insurance card, too.

Bands are NOT the only thing we should be bringing to the park, not if we want to be prudent.

Great point.

After a few servers mentioned that it’s not a dining plan and they don’t need the info, I stopped mentioning it. That’s not what they are asking about when they ask about a plan.

I am an android user. Any phone can access the site via a web browser. Once at the site save it (pin it) to your phone screen, then you won't have to type in the web address again & there will be an icon on your phone for it. www.mouseperks.com

I have an iPhone and saved the MousePerks website to my Home Screen. I use it constantly when we’re there!

True, but it's helpful to mention when they ask since they have to re-run the bill if they don't know until they bring it. We just find that it's easier to mention at the beginning and then, when we're ready for the bill, they'll take your card and run it rather than doing it over. I have to say that we've never had bad service because we've said we were using TiW (or AP discount for those few that don't take TiW).
