We purchased tables in wonderland this trip. It has already paid for itself on this one trip, but one thing that really bothered us was the fact that the tip was included and that was not advertised. Only ONE server pointed out that the tip was included to us. Our server at Tony's even folded the payment slip in such a way to hide the included tip section! If we hadn't unfolded it, we wouldn't have noticed the included tip charge. That is just wrong. We are people that check receipts to make sure they are correct, but I suspect most people would just put in a tip and sign (especially after having a few drinks).
We felt that most of the servers were milking us for an extra tip. We love the program, but make sure you read your receipt!

An 18% tip is always included when you use the TIW card, so no need to look and see if a tip was added when using it, it WILL be added.

That is one of the things I like about the TIW card - besides the great savings. The tip is already included so you do not have to figure it out.

I agree, although it would be nice if the fact was advertised so people would not accidentally leave an "extra" tip.

I sincerely hope that you showed a manager at Tony's the folded slip. I find that reprehensible on the part of the server - they're GETTING 18%, for heavens sake.

I'm having a hard time picturing this... if you fold it in such as way as to hide the tip, you're also hiding the total, no?

Milking you for an extra tip??? REALLY??? That is an awful thing to say about MOST of the servers at WDW.

It is advertised. It is on the passholder website, where you can purchase it. It is on the holder for the card that also gives you the restaurants where it is welcome. I don't understand how you did not know that.

As for folding the receipt, I'd have to see that to understand how it was done. The receipts at WDW are very detailed; gives you total, before and after discount; amount of gratuity charged, etc. The only confusing thing is that the receipts automatically give you a line to add a gratuity even when it was automatically included; the so called dishonest servers have no control over this.

We were just there for 11 days and I used the card the whole time with no difficulties in seeing the 18% added on for gratuity.

We were told up front when purchasing the TIW tickets that an 18% tip would be included so there was no guessing or surprises for us. :)

Can I ask what TIW's are? I'm a novice :)

Tables in Wonderland...it's a discount card (available to Fl residents and those with APs), that gives you a 20% discount on most table service restaurants in WDW. It does cost about $75 or so,so you have to eat a fair amount to make up the initial cost.

It is really up to the guest to understand what they are buying....the included tip is a huge deal for us. The tip that is added is an 18% tip, we normally tip at 20%, so we save 2%!!! If the service was outstanding, we do add a bit more.
I have had one instance where I felt the server was trying to pull a fast one, but I called her on it and she said she was mistaken...she had forgotten that it was a TiW card, not the ddp!! Yeah, right. If I remember correctly, she pointed out the tip area and then made sure that I saw the 18% and 20% breakdown that was on the slip...shows it automatically so guests don't have to figure it out in their heads. She was very apologetic after that. Since it was a buffet meal, I figure she had already done pretty well with the automatic 18%...obviously no more was added.

This all seems a bit silly to me - "beware"?

I'm sure the information is in the booklet they hand you when you buy the card, and it is discussed here over and over and over when anyone asks about TiW.

I have never experienced a server trying to get a double tip when using the TiW card.

I believe Raenstorim, you are the same person who said not that long ago that people were stupid (yes that word was used) for not researching things about their trip. Doesn't this fall into the same category? And no, I'm not calling you that, because I wouldn't do that.

I just find saying "beware" like there's some kind of Disney scam going on to be over the top.

It is a discount dining card available to Annual Passholders and Florida residents. It takes 20% off food and drink at most table service restaurants and quick service restaurants at resorts that have no table service restaurants such as all the value resorts and Port Orleans - French Quarter. It is a great savings and it is no secret that the 18% gratuity is added on to your bill at Table Service restaurants.

Agreed. This is the first time we used TIW and it really worked out for us. :thumbsup2

TIW is a dining type program for annual passholders and Florida residents (I think you may be able to buy into it as a regular visitor but that doesn't seem worth it). It gives you 20% off all (well most) sit down restaurants and some table service. It also allows you to spend more money by buying tickets to once in a life time food events. My favorite (that we didnt attend) was one that the dinner was held INSIDE the great movie ride. Would have loved to go to that!

I'm having a hard time picturing this... if you fold it in such as way as to hide the tip, you're also hiding the total, no?

It was kind of accordianed. With the top part and tip/signature lines showing and the bulk of the receipt hidden in the back. It took him an ungodly amount of time to bring us back our credit card so we suspect he was doing a little origami. It might have just been a cute way to present the receipt, but it was highly coincidental.

I don't understand either. No one hides this info while purchasing it, and if you researched it the info is right there out there as well.

Nope. Resident (costs $100) and AP holder (costs $75) ONLY.

Most table service and a few counter services (those inside of AK and the value food courts) are included. At table service restaurants, there's an automatic 18% tip included; if you have problems during your meal, get the manager to have them fix the problem or make an exception in the tip if it can't be fixed.

The few times when we included a bit more than the included 18%, the servers thanked us specially. It was very sweet of them. :goodvibes

I have no doubt I called someone stupid. I didnt check out your link, but that sounds like me!

We had no issue with the tip included, as others said it is a major bonus (no math involved :thumbsup2)! We read our receipts so we didnt pay extra, but I can see someone not reading it and doing the tip twice.

I know this from personal experience..... We stay at a beach resort for two weeks each summer and tend to order room service for breakfast. My husband always signs the room charge slip. One day (a few years back) he was in the bathroom when the room service guy came so I had to sign the slip. I have always read receipts so I noticed the tip charge and just signed the form. I thought nothing of it. At some point we were chatting about room service or something and I made the comment about how nice it was to have the tip included. He did not know it was included! :scared1: My husband has been staying at this hotel for two weeks since the early 90's and always adding a tip to the daily room service bill. :rolleyes1 It is no wonder the room service guys were always so nice to us! :lmao:

My beware is for stupid people like my husband that dont read and over pay. It might save them a few bucks. If you do read, then you dont need the help I am offering. Why is that a problem?:confused3

Oh and on a side note, the UT app shows what restaurants allow TIW. Some of them really surprised us!

I accidentally paid 2 tips once while using room service at the Beach Club. Yes, that "beware" I would agree with - but I read your original post like "beware of the scam".

If a person isnt going to read their reciepts, then, that is there bad. But you basically insinuated in your original post that the waiter folded the reciept in a way that would hide the 18% on the bill - again - insinuating that he/she was trying to scam an additional tip out of you. Really?

Seriously? Yeah, that wasn't a mistake . . . but it was a scam that must have worked for him in the past. And no one is saying that EVERY server at WDW is working the system for extra tips. But this happened to the OP, so it happens. Beware might be a bit much, but BE AWARE is good advice for everyone.

And yes, yes, it says the tip is included on the paperwork, on the this, on the that. Isn't everyone who always remembers that just wonderful? But on occasion, **gasp**, I too forget things, and it would be awfully nice to not have servers trying to game me when I do.

I waited table for 10 years. I know all the scams. It happens. And if WHEN it happened it was reported IMMEDIATELY to a manager, then trust me, it wouldn't happen again with that particular server. Who may or may not be out of a job, and justifiably so. Anyone who does one scam and gets away with it will do more, and more, and more, until they get caught.
