TABLE SERVICE TO-GO?????

I know I have asked this before but I didn't get many responses and I am hoping someone "in-the-know" will read this and respond....

Can you walk up to a table service restaurant in MK or Epcot or at a resort and ask to order off the menu to-go ?? We have a few ADRs set up but I get tired of eating in restaurants w/2DDs and DH and I would love to have table service quality meals to enjoy leisurely in our pjs in the room without room service prices. We are staying at the CR and most of the food my kids will eat I can get at the food and fun center anyway but DH and I would love to eat TS menu items in the room from Concourse, Cal Grill, Citricos, etc.

Has anyone ever tried this??? :confused3

I know you can do this at Kona's in the Poly because we always do it. Sometimes DD wan't a grilled cheese for lunch whiler we are poolside and Capt Cooks doesn't have them so I get them at Kona's. Sometimes I want to eat in the room and get it to go. You just have to go to the podium and order and they call you when it is ready.

S-W-E-E-T!!! Thanks for the info on Kona. :thumbsup2 That is somewhere I am wanting to try since I read the menu on allears MMMmmmmm...I am hungry already. Have you gotten any carry-out from Kona at dinnertime?

Anybody else get TS to-go?

I've gotten dinner and lunch. No problem!

Skiwee1 you have saved me!! I am so EXCITED to find someone who has gotten take out with no problemm :bounce:

Are we the only ones who like carry-out?

thank you - I like the beef teriyaki salad at Kona's but wasnt sure if I wanted to dine alone. I'll order and take it out to the pool (DVC)

Do you think this would apply to TS restaurants in the park too? We'll be taking a couple of 2.5 year olds. They tend to be more cooperative at meal time if they're not strapped in. If we can just order all our TS and eat outside, the kids would be very happy. And strangely enough, they'll eat more too. Go figure!

No, you aren't the only ones. I get carryout from Kona every time we go. My DW and DD don't really like much on their menu so I just order mine to go and eat it in the room. MMMM...sticky wings :goodvibes

Thanks for posting this!! We're staying at the Poly for the first time, and this is definitely good info to know. I think we'll definitely end up doing this a few times. Not sure I would have even thought to ask. So thanks! :)

I am so happy to see I am not a weirdo for wanting a TS quality meal eaten leaisurely in my room where the little ones can run free.(w/o room service prices and a bigger variety of food)

Now the BIG question about TS restaurants in the parks.......I have two neighbors go to Disney in Feb. Maybe I can get them to walk up to some and ask :teeth: if they do take-out.

Anybody else know someone going to the parks real soon??? Or maybe we could catch someone on the Live Reports board and beg them to ask....

Do you think we can use a dining plan TS credit for take out?

One of our concerns is that the 3 boys will have an evening where they are too tired to behave in a TS restaurant. If DH and I could still use our TS credits that would be great!

Do we need an ADR to do take out?

I decided it wouldn't hurt to ask the authority--allears. I just sent them an email question and asked about availability of to-go at resorts and parks w/o an ADR. I hope they will answer. I didn't even think about the dining plan. Maybe you could pose the question to Deb (and staff) at allears to see if they will reply to one of us :goodvibes

We've had cheese soup, pretzel bread and a dessert from Le Cellier to go. We ordered at the podium, they gave us buzzer and let us know when it was ready.

The soup was in styrofoam cups with lids, the pretzel bread wrapped in foil, and dessert in a box. They gave us napkins, spoons and forks.

We were going to take it back to our resort, but instead we scored a great last minute spot for illuminations and sat and watched while we ate.

Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness Campground also does take out. I have forgotten the cost but you get containers which you fill up from the buffet and away you go.

Le Cellier to go?????!!!! "A dream is a wish your heart makes...."

Putting it on my to-do list right now! I so much prefer eating outside, and getting a spot for Illuminations sounds like a wonderful idea while you eat!

Please let us know what you find out!

I will ask about the dining plan!

I got a quick response from the allearsnet team that I will quote:

"You probably could "beg" and get the restaurant to do this for you, but they are really not equipped for take-out ...either at the resorts or in the parks, so it's not something they would really LIKE to do on a regular basis."

What do I take from this response?? Chances are if you are nice (asking sweetly w/ a smile :teeth: ) and patient(always a virtue) that you will probably get a "sure, we can do that for you" because after all...the customer is always right and Disney is in the business of entertainment and if they can make an extra buck off of you that they otherwise might lose out well...we know which one they will choose. :)

On a side note....don't you think it could really boost the profits of some of the more popular restaurants to make carry-out an offerred option to walk-ups when ADRs have them at capacity?

Back to topic....WHOWEEEeeee! I am going to be getting carry-out b/c i can be REAL sweet

Well I do think that most restaurants are equipped for carry out. If they have packaging for taking out leftover then they have it for carry out. At Kona's when ever I do this there is at least another person waiting for carry out also. Last time there were 4 of us and we all stood there and had a chat waiting for our pagers to go off.

We were on a meal plan several years ago and on the last day of the plan we switched to a villa for a few more days of play. We had dinner at Yahtsmen Steakhouse and used up our extra meal credits buying take out for the remainder of our stay when we weren't on the plan. It was no problem and a great way to use up extra meal credits.
Someone above mentioned that take-out opportunities would be a great way to make more money but the problem is not just a full restuarant in the front of the house but the kitchen only has so much room and so many chefs to prepare the food. At some of the more popular restuarants they could really get in the weeds quickly if they advertised that they could do take out.
I work at a culinary school and we had that problem yesterday in our kitchen because they had a new menu and the front of the house didn't limit the covers (ressies) and the kitchen had a hard time keeping up. Kitchens tend to be able to accomodate the amount of seats a restuarant has and the occasional take out unless it's in the business plan (staffing, kitchen space, menu items that travel well, ) to do take out they may not be able to handle it.

I totally understand what you mean about the kitchen not being equipped to handle an increase in volume that could result. I have worked in many high volume seasonal restaurants in the Myrtle Beach :smooth: area in my day. However: Disney knows how to efficiently run these restaurants as they do lots of testing, planning, etc. I just think they should maybe test market such an idea at some very popular restaurants and see if it increases their bottom line and customer satisfaction ratings being able to offer a choice-especially given the diversity of its customer base. :)

Side note-How do you like the Yachtsman Steakhouse? Have you ever eaten at Concourse--I am trying to decide between the two. Gosh, I get so hungry when I am on this board...I can't imagine why....
