I just read that Tortilla Jo's was closed temporarily due to a health inspection where they found a roach infestation....I really have zero desire to eat there now- even if they have cleaned up their act now, it shows how little they care about being clean.

Any other table service Mexican restaurant. We're staying at VGC and won't have a car.

Thanks!

Nope it is the only one. I personally am not worried about it. Cockroaches get in everywhere. I would not say it shows how little they care. But since you are concerned, I would also hesitate to dine at Naples, Uva, and Catal as they are all the same company.

There is a CS Mexican restaurant in each park. We really like Rancho Zocalo in Frontierland. It's not table service, but it's also cheaper and the food is still good.

Roaches can get into the cleanest of homes and businesses. I would be more concerned about a restaurant not keeping foods at the proper temperatures. Anyway, I agree that Rancho Zocalo is pretty good.

True.....but what I read is that it was closed temporarily due to an infestation....."sounds" like much worse than an occasional roach making it's way inside.....but I hope you're right that it's nothing to worry about....OTOH, I hope you're wrong about it being everywhere.:scared:

Yeah, we plan on hitting Rancho Zocalo. We really like Mexican food (hey, we're Texans----I think it's legally required here in Texas!), so I figured we'd go to a couple of Mexican restaurants.

I was kinda drooling over the fried ice cream on the Tortilla Jo's menu. I totally agree about temperature violations being able to make you more sick....

I'm pretty familiar with LA County restaurant inspections because my grandmother would not eat anywhere until we read her all the inspections of the places we were considering. I assume OC is pretty similar in their inspection process. They do use the word "infestation" for any types of bugs, even just flies. It's also kind of shocking how many violations a place can have and still get an A rating. I tend to think that if they were able to clean the place and get it reopened the same day it isn't too bad. But here's both the original inspection and the re-inspection report so you can read it and decide for yourself if you feel comfortable there.

For comparison, here are some other recent inspections from DLR.

5/5 Carthay - http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/inspectionArchives/DAAGRUBS0.PDF
They also had issues with employee hand washing (now towels and access to the sink was blocked), food held at improper temperatures (including one major violation) and issues with lack of sanitizer in the dishwasher and dish racks being stored on the floor.

11/24 Jolly Holiday - http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/inspectionArchives/DA9155757.PDF
Hasn't been inspected in almost 6 months, no major violations, but they did have flies, issues with food temp and hand washing. They also had 6 minor violations last May (http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/inspectionArchives/DA9872824.PDF) and still got the award of excellence for 2014 with 10 total minor violations during the year, plus an onsite inspection in June for food borne illness.
