We are in need of a table service meal at DHS in late September. Other than Brown Derby, what would you recommend? We have eaten breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, but would really like to do something different this trip. Any suggestions as for lunch or dinner?

We have not eaten at any of the other table service restaurants in DHS and are open to pretty much anything (we have a six year old and a two year old if that helps!) Thank you!

How about the 50's Prime Time Cafe? I just booked an ADR for our November/December trip. Looks like it will be fun.

To me DHS is lacking any type of eating places.
But I would go to Primetime's 50's diner.

Sci Fi is cool, but it is more for lunch IMO.

First choice would be Sci-Fi if the darkness and B movie wouldn't scare your little one. Second choice would be 50's.

'50's Prime Time Cafe would be our first choice. It's always a lot of fun.

I should also add that we would never eat Mama Melrose's again. We had two terrible experiences there.

 One bad experience was enough for me! Maybe it was just an "off" day but ... YUCK.

i like sci-fi - will go thre for burger lunch

primetime is fried chicken for me, and either meatloaf or pot roast for DH:cloud9:

Please give Mama Melrose's another try. I am picky, and I loved it there when we went in '08.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I am going to call tomorrow to see what we can get!! I appreciate the help!

I'm sure we will give it another try one of these days. As much as we try to experiment with other cuisines, it always comes back to Italian food.

We just had a bad experience in 2008. Great service but lousy food. It tasted a little bit "Olive Garden" to me. Then again, I am very critical when it comes to Italian food, especially tomato sauce. If I'm not "feeling" the sauce, then I'm usually very cranky.

Mama Melrose or 50's. We really liked both, but we can get good chicken anywhere so MM would probably win for adult dinners. I don't eat beef, but DH and friend said their steaks were excellent. The two pasta dishes we had were also really good. With a 6 and 2 yr old, I may lean toward 50's just for the milkshakes and the antics of the servers.

I suggest 50's Prime Time. It's a fun atmosphere with good food.

I've also eaten at Sci-fi and Mama Melrose. Sci-fi is also a fun atmosphere. I remember the food being good, but nothing I remembered after the trip. I will never return to Mama Melrose, terrible service and less than mediocre food.

We've eaten at Brown Derby, Sci Fi, Mama Melrose and 50's Prime Time. We have three boys, ages pre-school to pre-teen, and we all love Brown Derby - it's my favorite restaurant in all of WDW and we are entirely comfortable taking our children there for dinner.

But since OP asked for something besides Brown Derby, I won't go on about it! So I'd suggest 50's Prime Time. We were just there a few days ago and thought the food was great and the theming was so well done. I thought I wouldn't like the "act" there, but it was entirely comfortable and we all had fun. The only negative for us was that the TVs were a little distracting to our older boys - we had to remind them not to trail off in the middle of a conversation!

We have also enjoyed Mama Melrose in the past - I used to recommend it all the time - but my husband recently said that he doesn't think it's all that great. It's good, basic Italian food - not the best - but good and right around the corner from Lightning McQueen, making it a hit with our pre-schooler! I like the atmosphere inside - it's cozy and good for our early spring trips when the weather is cooler - I don't think it would be at the top of my list for a summer trip.

We go to 50's Primetime every trip. We're going back in Sept. I tried to get ressies for Sci-Fi (we've never been there, but wanted to try it), but couldn't find any times that fit our schedule. Hope you enjoy your trip.

50's PTC has the best food, but Sci Fi has a really awesome atmosphere..depends which is more important to you

Again, I thank you for all of the advice!! I always appreciate the help given on this board...do not know how I would plan our trips without you all!! :thumbsup2

Another vote for Mama Melrose. We have always gotten good meals here, and surprisingly the last two trips had the best steaks on the trip!

We liked the 50's Prime Time. The food was really good! We have also eaten at Mama Melrose and we enjoyed it as well. The Sci-Fi was kind of dark but was fun sitting in those cars. I guess it all depends on what you prefer for an atmosphere. I'm sure whatever you chose, it will be an experience!
