I don't believe that there are any tables for two in the main dining rooms. I think the smallest table is a table for four. You can probably request that you're not seated with another group, but I don't know that they could guarantee to be able to accomodate you.
I was kind of hesitant about eating with strangers prior to my first cruise, but now ask for a large table. We've made many good friends at the dinner table of cruise ships over the years.
You can ask to be seated alone. If you booked through a TA, have them let DCL know about your request, otherwise you will need to call them. Be sure you see the Maitre'de after you board (the Navigator will tell you where he is) so you can see if your request was honored, and if not, you can make the request in person and hope for the best.
Or you could get lucky like we did. On our last DCL cruise we were at a table for 8. No one else showed up the entire cruise. We know there was someone booked at the table with us, but they never made an appearance. It was great. Although, I felt bad for our servers since they were losing out on tips by the no shows. But heck, we loved it.
There are technically no tables for 2. However, we have been seated with just 2 of us at a table for 4. You can certainly make a request. They will honor the request if space permits. Translation...if the ship is totally full, it is harder to meet requests than if there are empty cabins. They will try!
I find that kinda sad. I enjoy meeting new people on the cruise and since you are dinning with them for 3, 4 or 7 nights, you will get to know each other over the course of the cruise. The most fun we had was when we sat at a BIG table with 3 other families (none of us knew each other before the cruise). It was a blast!!
Last year, when the ship wasnt so full, we had an 8 top table just for the 2 of us! Made us look like we had no pals! This year, the ship was full, and we were seated on a table with 6 others, and had a great week chatting to them each evening! Much as I love my DH, it was nice to chat to 'foreigners' from USA/Canada for an hour or so at dinner! Nat
