Table for two dining

My Dh and I prefer eating dinner by ourselves, so whenever we cruise we request a table for two. Then when we board the ship, we meet with the maitre 'd and ask for a table with chairs, not the bench type seating which is sometimes on ships (long bench, with tables too close together). Our request has always been honored (Princess), but I'm wondering how to handle this on a Disney ship since you change dining rooms. I'm hoping someone on these boards can tell me how it works. We will be on the Disney Fantasy in February. Thanks very much.

It works the same way just request your own table (you have to call DCL) and they will more than likely be able to honor your request.

We do this also. So far we have never had an issue. They give you a table number and then each night you sit at that table in each restaurant with the same servers. The tables are usually for 4. So you just have two seats spare. We have never had a bench type table only a proper table. We dine in the main seating ( first seating ) so might be more room. Also we book Palo's one night that is nice for just $30 more pp if you haven't been before. It's adult only.

Hope this helps!

Well, the tables on DCL are very close together. But I would put in a request before you sail that you wish to be seated alone and then when you get on board ou can double check. I don't think there are bench tables on DCL.

The only booths with bench seating in the Fantasy MDRs are a few in Enchanted Garden. You can make the requests for no table mates and a table with chairs. Both are just requests, but most people report a table for 2 has been granted. Plus there's more likely to be people wanting the EG booths so I wouldn't think avoiding those would be any problem. I believe main dining (early) gets pretty full, so there's greater likelihood of having both requests at the late seating but you can still request it for early dining.

I believe Palo has some booth seating; not sure about Remy. So if you are doing any adult dining you'll want to request a table with chairs.

Enjoy your cruise!

the one time we did not request it ahead of time i went to dinning changes after boarding. we were told that we could have our request granted however we would need to take late dinning. they told me that late dinning is the time that is usually less full.
anytime we have requested it ahead we have had our request filled.

In Royal Court there are some table that have banquette-style seating (booth-like seats) on one side of the table, and chairs on the other. Yes, Palo has some booths (we were in one)

Can I ask a question about this? Do they typically just put a 2 adult party at a 4-person table? Or a bigger table? First cruise in 9 days!

If you've requested to be seated as just your party of 2, and the request is honored, you will be seated at a 4 top (smallest table they have).

It's not automatic that 2 people get their "own" table, unless you're Concierge.

Our last two cruises we were seated at 4 tops (one with another couple, and the second with a mother/adult daughter combo).

Past cruises as 2 we were seated at 8 tops with 3 other couples.

as a couple, we are usually seated at a table for 6 and have had appropriate table mates. we don't request to be seated alone, thats not our preference. generally i would assume you would be seated with similarly composed couples as your selves (ages basically). we've loved this part of cruising, it's worked out well though you never know i guess. as a family of 3, we are usually seated with others and as a group of 4-6, we've been seated with our party alone without requesting. other then the booths in a couple of restaurants, i can't think of bench seating anywhere?

i would make the request asap before you board and i would make other "back up" plans (cabanas, palo) for myself if they were unable to grant the request. most people here don't report issues having their requests honored, but i pity the person(s) making all the arrangements and trying to figure in all the special requests!

you will have a great time!

I'm cruising solo so this is good/bad news. The good news is that I won't stick out like a sore thumb "that poor girl must be so lonely". The bad news - I will probably get paired with some horny dogs on their honeymoon who don't know the difference between a dining room and a bedroom. The good news is that, being as I'm only ONE person, they may stick me with a party of three so I'll have someone to talk to while the honeymooners carry on.

I really don't think you need to worry about honeymooners getting busy at the table LOL!!! Disney does a pretty good job of matching people up but of course not every personality will meld. There is a whole thread on horrible tablemate experiences and is pretty lengthy. We have had not so great tablemates only twice in 33 cruises with Disney. I do not think DCL is put you at a table alone unless you request that.

We ended up sitting with honeymooners once and had an awesome time. ;) We are a party of two and have always been sat at a 6 or 8 top, not a 4 top, when we have sat with others.

Oh I've shared tables with honeymooners before too and some good and some bad but it'd be just my luck. LOL

Do people act like this on their honeymoons anymore? Honestly, most newly weds have been living together for years by the time they actually get married. I know I was so exhausted planning and entertaining that I just wanted to sit on a lounge chair and drink fancy cocktails and shove snacks in my face!

When I cruised solo, I was seated at a table with 5 other women. Three of the women were traveling together without family and the other 2 women were solo travelers like me. I was pleased with this arrangement and had not requested any table arrangements.
