Can travel agents in Canada offer OBC like some of the bigger US travel agencies do? $50/$1000 spent seems to be the norm. Has anyone in Canada gone through an Expedia Cruise Center? What was the experience like with them and what offers you get? Can CAD's even book through a US travel agency? Thanks!

I believe Tracey H. from DU is Canadian?

We are Cdn and booked two cruises through US TAs without any problems and had a good experience. This last cruise we booked a cruise for next summer while on board and then transferred it to Costco after we got home. Their cash back card is worth more than the OBC we were getting.

My dad’s travel agent is cruise-focused and pretty good at finding deals across most cruise lines, so I started using them as well.

OBC is about what OP mentioned so it’s really about the service for us. And they do provide good service, going so far as to ensure things like Cantonese-speaking tour guides on excursions etc. Granted this is on ships like Crystal or Viking but you get the idea.

So I guess what I’m saying is that what they lack on things like extra OBC they try to make up for in other areas. And when you shop around for a TA that might be a factor to take into consideration.

I'd second (third?) the recommendation for Dreams Unlimited. They offer On Board Discounts to all customers in addition to whatever you might qualify for directly from DCL. We've used Tracey H for many of our DCL cruises and highly recommend her.

We have cruised 4 times, live in the GTA, we used Dreams Unlimited every time. Beth Fejer is awesome, we loved our on board credit and gift basket.

thanks everyone, anyone gone through an Expedia Cruise Ship Center? There is one about an hour away. Do they offer OBC or just Expedia reward points? More interested in the former of course.

We have booked through Expedia for another cruise line, Princess, I think and it was fine, I did it all over the phone actually - and they did offer OBC. I only did it because we get extra rewards by booking through them (TD rewards). I previously booked a DCL cruise through a US TA and it was fine as well. These days I try to book as much travel as possible through Costco as it represents the overall best deal for us, usually. (We are big on Costco shopping). You can always give Expedia a call to find out what their deals are.
