Hi there! Trying to save money by designing matching t-shirts for the kids to wear at D-Land. I wanted to put a picture of Mickey Mouse on the front, but am finding interesting laws about not using the picture. Has anyone done this - did you have any problems? Thanks!

Well, if you do it yourself using inkjet Iron-ons, no one will stop you from making them...

And I doubt you will get arrested walking around Disney wearing them...

Morally, I don't know?

If you are making them for your own personal pleasure and not for profit then go for it.
Disney sells lots of kits for making your own printables (stickers, magnets, and iron-ons) so in those cases it is clearly okay to print your stuff.

Well - I thought so - but all the places on-line that you buy the transfer papers from had me worried! I guess they have to cover themselves!

Personally I would have no problem wearing a shirt where I printed a picture of Mickey on iron-on paper.

But, if you have a problem doing that, you could have your kids draw a picture of Mickey or a Princess or the Castle or something and then use that. It would be cute!

It is against copyright laws, unless you have permission (personal or professional use). However, I doubt anyone would say anything to you, because they don't know if you are using it with permission. I use Disney's own software, which gives permission for shirts to be made. There are several Disney software products, so you can pick and choose which characters you want to use. If you need any help, give me a call. I used Elisa's (edps.com) cold transfer paper before I got my press, now I use her hot (I wouldn't suggest the hot with an iron). They come out wonderful..almost foolproff.

I purchased the software and there are about a dozen images to choose from. Mickey/Minnie together and separate, Donald/Daisy, goofy, the gang, pooh,etc. There are no princesses though. Some of the transfers you can add photos to before you print them out. You can add text. It is pretty cool. I am making matching t-shirts for our May trip (14 people).

I've done a search for Disney software, Disney iron ons, Disney iron on transfers, etc. I've gone to the creative projects & ideas section. No results anywhere. I'm sure I'm overlooking the obvious & it's staring me right in the face but could someone please tell me where to find it.

I will probably feel even dumber when I find out it was SO easy to locate!

Yes, I know. I want to make shirts for my family to wear on our upcoming trip. I don't know about anyone else but I don't have the time nor the desire to make more than that.

yes if it is just for personal use you are ok. We are looking into a few things ourselves since My husband makes wooden toys and jewelry boxes etc... He wanted to make boxes with a Mickey head Inlay on top. We are looking into getting a license for this. It may not be worth it... we'll see.

Been there done that with Disney. Their license is unbelievably expensive. It's based on royaltys and a promised (very high) amount of sales. You must guaranty them that amoutn. It was higher than what my gross sales would have been. They'll ask for your past sales, business plan etc.

The OP was looking to make them for her family. That is well within the license of any and all of the Disney software. You can now actually cut out Mickey from their material and decoupage it on wooden items, by the way. You can't scan it, but you have to use it as is. It's already been fought and won.

Thanks for all the great info - Now I just have to decide what the t-shirts are going to look like! BTW - only making them for the 5 cousins that are getting together for the first time there - absolutely no interest in selling them!

Thank you for providing those source links! I think I'm going to have a hard time deciding which to get...maybe I should get them all and then I'll be prepared for several Disney trips to come!
