OK, so my 90 day ADR window opens next Monday. We are going down over Memorial Day weekend for a quick 4 night trip to celebrate DS's 12th birthday. The trip is a surprise!! I want to plan a TS meal somewhere & get a small cake for him - T-Rex LOOKS so cool but I see it does not take ADR's:confused3 . Why not? What is the wait time like - how long should we plan on waiting if we go on such a busy weekend?? ALSO, is it WORTH it??? I read where DVC members & AP holders will be getting some sort of a discount there starting in January. Anybody know how much & if one is better than the other? We are staying at SSR for the first time. Wondered if we should just try to dine there somewhere instead so I can make ADR's??? If so, where??

Anybody have any other recommendations for a good restaurant for a 12 yo boy birthday? I thought about Whispering Canyon too just bcuz he had fun there when we went before...although I do not think it's the BEST FOOD on property. The T-Rex menu looks pretty pricey...is it worth it???:confused3 I don't mind paying a lot if it's GOOD.

We do not do the DDP and don't usually do a whole lot of TS meals because we like to "wing it" and don't like to be tied to a certain time & place. Usually almost always go to Boma - but won't have time on this trip so I just don't know where to go. Is there anyplace in Epcot we should try? I have always wanted to try LeCellier but not sure that's what I need for THIS meal. We also have not tried the Rainforest Cafe... So many choices...

HELP!

We went in December and my 8 year old absolutely loved the place. While we found the food to be standard fare you are really paying for the environment. It would probably be a fun place for a birthday. Before you leave buy a membership at the Rainforest Cafe (you should be able to do this online). There is a cost but it is immediately returned with meal discounts. If you are member you will bypass the wait when you arrive. I could not use my card at the T-Rex in December because of its new opening but was informed that they will be accepting the cards within the near future. You will bypass the line if you choose Rainforest. We have never, ever had a wait at either because of our membership. Have fun. What a nice surprise.

I say try it - It looks like a lot of fun!

I spoke to a CM today (when changing resorts):rolleyes1 . She said that T-Rex was great. She highly recommended it and I didn't even ask about it. She said, "If you like Rainforest Cafe, then you will love T-Rex." I hope this helps! Enjoy!

We have never tried Rainforest Cafe either. Another poster mentioned some sort of membership card in order to avoid having to wait. I'm not sure we'd get the good out of a membership since it's probably not something we'll do often, if ever again. (Depends on how our first experience goes.) Still curious what an avg. wait time would be for it and if their burgers are worth spending $14 for??

I am surprised I can't seem to find any raving reviews (either for or against) the place.:confused3

Just FYI---T-REX takes reservations--I called this past Friday

1) reservations has nothing to do with the 90 day window-they do their own reservations
2) our reservation is for May 26th
3) number 407-828-8739

By the way Planet Hollywood is part of the 90 day window thru dining reservations.

Hope this helps!

I called on Thursday and made a lunchtime reservation for our trip next month. I was told it was "priority seating," which meant we would be moved to the top of the list and get the next available table when we arrived. I think she said they are taking reservations for this 6 months (!) out.

My 2 sons, 7 and 5, are very excited about their "build-a-dinosaur" (like Build-A-Bear workshop). Well, I guess I am, too!

I am expecting it to be a lot like Rainforest Cafe: okay food, overpriced, in a very noisy atmosphere. Works okay with my very loud boys....

I too made a reservation for t-rex on May 25th, I was told it was a PS and I would get the first available table after checking in.

We have eaten there twice, once in November and again in January. The food is surprisingly good. We were impressed.

Wow, it's really been a long time since I've been to WDW! I've never even heard of T-rex! Where is this restaurant- did it take over where Rainforest used to be at AK or something? LMK!

Nevermind- I did a search and found it is in DTD- this will work out well with our "no park day" where we'll be going to DQ that day/evening. I'll have to call tomorrow and make a reservation! I hope we can get dinner that night, since they take reservations 6 months out! wow!

THANKS for the info, esp. the phone no.!! Now to decide what day & time so I can call. We only have 3 full days so now I will have to study the park hours & make our plan!!:goodvibes I will also inquire about a small cake for DS when I call.

We LOVED Trex! Very cool atmosphere. The place is huge. We got a walk up for lunch in the forest room. Incredible! I am not so sure about the ice room. Looks like it could cause a headache:confused3

We enjoyed our lunch at T-Rex last December. It's a fun to place to dine. From an attraction point of view, it's atmosphere over food; however, we found the quality of the food somewhat better than RC.

We were just there 3 weeks ago. We had called ahead and made a reservation for dinner our first night there. The atmosphere was fantastic and the food was surprisingly good as well. It was actualy my DD's favorite meal and that included trips to Chef Mickeys, Coral Reef and Ohanas.

I'm so glad I read this thread.
I also made a reservation for May 25th dinner! :)
