T-Rex discounts did NOT go through

I am SO frustrated. We had a bit of a fiasco at T-Rex last week. We had the $25 joining credit, the $25 birthday discount, and a kids' $1.99 deal.

The waiter assured us everything would be fine, then came and told us AFTER we finished eating that we could only get ONE of the discounts. We told him this is NOT what we were told before we ordered as he assured us everything was fine. He then acted like he was going above and beyond to get his manager to agree to such an outrageously huge discount. :rolleyes2

The manager said it was perfectly fine!

Waiter then brought us the bill.....it was for the FULL amount!!!!!!!!

I pulled him back and told him that I thought he had made a mistake. He said, "What the h*ll? I have no idea how that happened!" He then rectified it and we signed.

Well, the bill posted to my CC account today.......for the FULL amount.....$54 MORE than what I owed.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

I plan to fight this with the CC company. Is there a number or address to write to T-Rex as well? I really want to take away his tip! I tipped him on the whole amount and now wish I hadn't tipped him a dime. I also want this FIXED immediately.

First try calling the restaurant directly and speaking with a manager.
Next try calling the Landry (?) corporate offices, if you don't get a resolution.
All contact information should be readily available on the company's website.
Then, if it still can't be rectified, dispute tge charge with the credit card company.

Um, you have your receipt with the discounted charge - the amount you agreed to pay - right?

Wow that's crazy, we're doing the same thing with the Landry's credits (welcome and b-day) + the kids meal coupons ... maybe we'll just leave cash for any remaining amount so as to avoid any confusion.

Yup! Sure do! I almost tossed it and then remembered what hassle we got, and thought I better hang on to it!

I don't know what you mean by leave the cash for the remaining amount?

I have read right here on the DIS that others have NOT had an issue with this so I was surprised.

She's saying not giving them a credit card where they could charge more later.

Make sure you document everything. Who you speak to, when you called, etc. If you can email them and print that out, that's would be an ideal situation. Visa/MC/whoever need something to go off of to begin the dispute, having the receipt is great but they'll want evidence that you approached the company and gave them a chance to make right so to speak.

Wow, that's crazy. Absolutely take that to Landry's customer service and dispute the charge on your card if you don't get a positive response from Landry. The waiter was right that they can only apply one discount, but he was wrong to think of the rewards credits in that category. Only the kids' meal thing counts as a discount. The rewards points are considered an alternative form of payment, similar to using a gift card, and shouldn't have any bearing on using a coupon. At least that's what we've been told at 3 different Landry's places (including T-Rex).

We didn't end up using our kids' meal coupon on our last visit because both girls wanted to share adult meals with DM and I, but we had absolutely no problem applying two Select Club rewards (points & birthday) to our bill.

I'm sorry that this has happened to you. We are fortunate enough to stay on-site so i charge EVERYTHING to my KTTW card. I've had too many issues with dining and charges in general so I go over my room charges(I.e. charged twice, not put on DDP, etc) and then pay the resort with my CC or a GC. GL getting this resolved quickly and with minimal frustration:thumbsup2

OP, did you check your Landry's Select account to see if the Birthday Bonus and new account bonus were deducted? It almost sounds they didn't apply them to your bill.

We didn't stay on property.

I used all the rewards (sign up and birthday) plus 99 cent kids meal reading logs for 2 kids on October 20th and everything worked fine.

As it SHOULD!

I will get this straightened out, it just may take some effort and it will include a letter to T-Rex/Landry's with names!

At Rainforest at DTD we had issues as well. First, we were told only one discount as well. It was either the birthday $25 or the kids meal price etc. but not both which I understand. Our issue was that we asked for french fries as a side item for a meal that came with a side. Well after leaving the restaurant I realized we were charged like $4 for a side of french fries. It took me 3 phone calls and almost a week to get a credit. I think they were just hoping I would give up.

First call was that same day to the restaurant manager. He said he could not help to call Monday to talk to the accountant that is not there on the weekend and it was Friday. Then I could not get the accountant to get back with me and had to talk to Tuesdays manager. My lesson learned is to always pay with cash at those restaurants and check your reciept before you leave.

I have had to deal with Landry's customer service twice now, and their customer service was horrible both times. I have also had major issues with an RFC restaurant manager as well - restaurant had a bunch of screw ups, and didn't handle it well at all. That also did not go well. I am a very patient and understanding person, but I found in all of those cases, their employees were very short and impatient, and frankly seemed very bothered by me, despite the fact that in all 3 situations, they messed up.

I would definitely try to contact Landry's, but easiest and most efficient way to deal with this is prob the credit card company.

Best of luck, Tiger

Are we sure you are supposed to be able to use them together?

I have a welcome reward and a birthday reward available on my membership card. May I use the birthday reward first?

Rewards are redeemed in the order they were earned. Restaurants do not have the option of selecting which reward to redeem from a members account. The welcome reward will automatically be applied on the member’s first visit to the restaurant following registration.

If they have an order in which they are to be used, it does not sound like they are supposed to be used together.

Of course, they should have taken *one* of them (except that the terms and conditions say that points can't be earned when using a Safari Club discount, which the 1.99 kid's meal could be considered, and maybe it all got confused b/c of the 1.99 meal), and they should have done what they said they were going to do. But the basic understanding that both *should* be used might be wrong, which would be good to clarify with Landry's.

But the point is Bumper that TWO receipts were printed up. One was for the full amount, which I DID NOT sign, the other for the discounted amount, which I added a tip and a signature to.

It makes no sense overall.

Just dispute the charge with your credit card company, don't bother with Landry's. If everything went as you say it did and you have the signed receipt, you will win the dispute with no problem.
