Looking for someone who has T-Mobile One and sailed the Fantasy Western AND USED YOUR PHONE to give me feedback our experience.

Last year on Carnival I was able to use their onboard system to text my family who was ON BOARD. When we were in port I’d turn off airplane mode and use it as usual. No charges to my bill.

You might be able to get pretty close to the same service, but there are a couple of differences.
- On boarding day, you can get a 50MB free internet package. It's only available on boarding day. You'll need to turn off cellular data for everything besides messaging or you'll blow through it in about 15 minutes. You can have others in your party do the same. Depending on the length of your cruise, it might work. Note that if you send anything besides text (photos, emojis, etc.) you'll plow through that data much faster.
- The easier option is to have your party download and use the DCL app which has messaging built in and uses the onboard WiFi at no cost. Granted this won't help you for those folks you want to message who aren't onboard, but you're saving your 50MB for that, right? And your question was pertaining to those on board, so the DCL app is the way to go.

Outside of those options, you'd have to wait until you're in port to text or purchase a larger WiFi package.

Cheers!

My family has the T-Mobile Simple Choice plan, not One, but I think the international benefits are similar.

On the ship, as you had on Carnival and as daedelus said, you can text to anyone onboard using the free DCL app, even with your phone in airplane mode.

When we were docked, I turned off airplane mode and was able to use internet and texting on my phone at Castaway Cay and in Nassau with no charges. I could also use internet and texting in Italy, France, and Spain at no additional cost. For a quick phone call I made in Rome, I paid 25 cents per minute.

So, the experience with Disney Cruise should be similar to your experience with Carnival.

Also, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you may be able to use iMessaging even to people off the ship at no cost. This worked for us in the Europe on the Magic.

We have used T Mobile Simple Choice, literally all over the world, without problem. We've even been able to use it while the ship is sailing, if we are close enough to cell towers.

One change this year - you can iMessage people aboard and ashore if you connect to dcl WiFi without logging in.
